Planning a traditional Argentinean wedding? Look no further: we’ve got all the info you need to put together a fantastic soiree, complete with time honored customs straight from the heart of Argentina.
For starters, Argentinean couples don’t exchange rings during the wedding ceremony. Instead, they exchange wedding rings at the time of their engagement, and simply have the priest bless the rings at the church. Something else that traditional Argentinean weddings do without is large bridal party. There are no bridesmaids, groomsmen or maids of honor. The groom’s mother and bride’s father (or a similar parental figure) escort the couple down the aisle, and stand with them throughout the ceremony.
When it comes time for the reception, modern Argentinean weddings often reflect the fact that the country was once a melting pot for Jewish, Spanish, and Arab immigrants. For example, instead of a continuous meal, followed by dancing and music, it’s not uncommon to alternate each course with a few songs on the dance floor. (A custom that began as a Jewish influence, and is now simply a part of traditional weddings in Argentina)
And, of course, the waltz is quite often replaced by a sultry tango in Argentinean weddings, as well.
