Trash the Dress: Have a Post-Wedding Photo Session

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Looking forward to taking your bridal photos, but worried about how to keep your dress from getting dirty? It’s a common concern for brides who want to have a few more photos. Often, brides take photos a few days or even weeks before their ceremony to get those few shots in their gown before the flurry of the wedding (when key photos in the dress can get missed). Often, the biggest concern is not the photos, but the dress, or at least not ruining your dress before the big day.

So, how do you make sure you have all the right photos to commemorate your wedding, and of course the dress? In a Trash the Dress photo session, of course.

What is a Trash the Dress Photo Session?

Trash the Dress is a new trend in wedding photo sessions done after the big wedding day. A bride can schedule a separate photo session with the photographer for the bride or the bride and groom after the wedding. What is great about a Trash the Dress photo session is that you can literally shoot the photographs anywhere you want because you won’t have to worry about making sure not to “injure” the dress.

You can ride on a ferris wheel, run across the desert or even pose lying in the sand on the beach without worrying about scrapes, sand, water damage, or even a little dirt because the wedding day has already passed. The best part is that it gives brides the freedom to choose new places to take photographs without worrying what will happen to the dress. So, each bride can concentrate on getting all the frames and fun photos {that you didn’t get because you were so preoccupied on your wedding day}.

Can I still clean my dress?

Remember, for those of you who want to make sure that you can clean the dress, many dresses can still be salvaged depending on what type of photos you take. If salvaging your dress is important to you, then check with the manufacturer about clean-up.

Don’t hold back…

If you are a bride who loves drama or who wants to add a little more quirkiness to your memories, you may want to consider booking a “TTD” or Trash the Dress photo session with your photographer.

A big thank you to Chelsea Nicole for her fantastic Trash the Dress session.

A photo shoot after the wedding is such a great idea. If you’re not sure about trashing your dress you can still do a post wedding shoot with you and your hubby. This is great because you can shoot in the best light of the day in a cool, different location, shoot for a couple hours and not be rushed! As a photographer I have a blast doing these and don’t charge too much more for them to add to a package.

Love love LOVE these dresses. I'm a big fan of the bohemian look for any sort of wedding, but I think it's especially appropriate for an outdoor beach wedding (I blog about destination weddings to Mexico.) I posted a few of these pictures and link to this post on my own blog, please check it out at www.WedInMexico.org. I'm also on Twitter @WedInMexico. Thanks!
