Real Wedding: Nadia & Charles in Malibu, California

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Hi Para ti Novia readers!  We can’t wait for you to see this weeks incredible wedding.  We absolutely fell in love with this wedding and we know you will too!  From the tables to the location to the incredible Russian dolls incorporated into the decor, this bride and groom personalized every aspect of their wedding.

Ok, so here goes….

What were your colors?

I’ve always loved green and pink color combinations. It reminds me of nature with the pink adding just enough femininity balanced with the green.

For overall style we aimed to have a vintage & nature-inspired, romantic and worldly decor scheme. Megan of La Partie Events was our amazingly talented florist/coordinator and did a beautiful job incorporating all the elements we wanted into the décor.

(look at the bride’s beautiful veil – sorry we just had to comment on how lovely it was!)

Did you incorporate anything unique into your wedding?

Two things come to mind:  First – we surprised our families with the memory lane photographs hung on the clothesline from tree-to-tree and it looked better than I ever imagined! Both of our relatives migrated from different countries so the pictures told a nice story about our journeys up until now. They were loved by all!

Second – Charles’ family is known for doing silly ‘happy hugs’ during family gatherings. So it was only appropriate to do one at our wedding! At the end of the reception we gathered all of our guests for a gigantic group happy hug! All 80 guests huddled in one pile and jumped up and down while joyously screaming with laughter! It was a moment to remember.

Incorporating Cultural Traditions and Latina Background?

It was important for us to somehow incorporate our heritage, which we tried to do with the Matryoshka dolls as wedding favors, (that were brought with tons of love all the way from Russia by my family). My hubby is Venezuelan so we included beautiful Spanish-inspired paper flags throughout in his honor in addition to worldly music.

Did you integrate any DIY (do-it-yourself) elements?

Definitely, I’ve always enjoyed arts and crafts so to save money and to have full control of design – I made our wedding programs, picture guest book where our guests left us love notes, table numbers, escort cards and thank you note cards that we stuffed inside the wedding favor Matryoshka dolls.  It was a lot of work but absolutely rewarding to see it all come together the day of.

Was budget a factor? If so in what way?

Oh yes! We definitely tried to cut corners and get creative whenever we could.  It was important for Charles and I to be able to pay for most of the wedding ourselves. Our families have done so much for us so we wanted our wedding to be a form of gratitude to them and celebration of love.

What would you do different?

We forgot to let our guests know that they can take some of the flowers with them home so they wouldn’t go to waste.  It was painful to leave them all behind! Also, we had a photo booth section in an area that wasn’t too visible, which kept many of our guests from having the opportunity to use it.  A sign directing to the booth would have been helpful.  Other than that everything was perfect!

Love love LOVE these dresses. I'm a big fan of the bohemian look for any sort of wedding, but I think it's especially appropriate for an outdoor beach wedding (I blog about destination weddings to Mexico.) I posted a few of these pictures and link to this post on my own blog, please check it out at www.WedInMexico.org. I'm also on Twitter @WedInMexico. Thanks!
