Real Wedding: Brittany & Dustin in San Luis Obispo, CA

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Hi Novias.  Remember the amazing wine trolley wedding we spotted and put on the blog?  Well if you didn’t see one of my favorite weddings you need too.  And, finally we have the amazing weekend here all in one place with the bride here to share the story of how she and Dustin met.

Their wedding was beyond beautiful and idyllic but just in case you don’t believe me here are the amazing pics…and Brittany’s own words about planning this incredible day!

But, before we move on to Brittany’s story, we wanted to share how the couple kicked off their incredible weekend – the Rehearsal Dinner.

The Rehearsal Dinner

The Rehearsal Dinner was a great Latin themed fun event to kick off the weekend in San Luis Obispo – a coastal town in Central California.

The Color Palette

Check out the incredible color palette of sorbet colors and brights. We love that…don’t you?

The thing we love most about this couple is not just their rock-star wedding…which was an all day affair but also the cute cool things they threw in like Dustin’s funny glasses!

Now for Brittany and Dustin’s incredible story:

Paratinovia: How did you and the groom meet?

Brittany: Dustin and I meet when I went into his office to pick up a set of construction plans to bid a flooring job to him. I knew I was in trouble the minute he walked down the stairs in the lobby, because for one of the few times in my life I didn’t know what to say. We dated for a bit over a year before we got engaged.

Dustin proposed at my favorite restaurant in my home town on La Jolla (Café Milano). It was a Tuesday evening and he tricked me by saying we were meeting friends for dinner, and when we arrived they weren’t there. The table was set with an amazing bouquet of flowers as well as a bottle of champagne; he threw me off by saying “I just wanted to do something nice for you, since you are always working so hard”. About 15 minutes after sitting down he started getting nervous and then reached in his pocket and got down on one knee, I can barely remember what he said when he proposed because I started crying and just said YES. The next thing I knew both of our families arrived and my best friend for an impromptu engagement celebration. The entire night could not have been more perfect!

Paratinovia: Tell us about the theme and colors of your wedding

Brittany: Our colors were orange, light blue, and chocolate brown with the majority of the linens and flower being white. The theme was a Wine Trolley Wedding. There was no significance to the colors, but I just wanted to do something different from many of the weddings I had seen before.

Paratinovia: How did you incorporate your Latina background?

Brittany: We incorporated my Latin culture into the welcome dinner the night before the wedding with food and drinks that had a Latin flare. We did integrate DIY elements. At the ceremony site: My Dad and his girlfriend Viv sanded the branches and assembled the base of the canopy at the start of the isle, Dustin’s mom made the beautiful white paper flowers at the base of the canopy and hanging from the tree. At the reception: The birch cake and cupcake stand was built by my Father and Dustin, as well as the centerpiece on our table. All of the linens were done by Dustin’s Mom and my Mom. Cortnie and the other Lollipop ladies spray-painted wine bottles white to use at the catering table, and I handmade the wine charms. I know there were more DIY items I just can’t think of them right now :)

Paratinovia: How did you pick your team?

Brittany: I picked Lollipop event and design because we love their unique aesthetic and creative approach to DIY. The only other vendors that we picked ourselves were Mike Larson Photography, Kramer Entertainment, and Rhonda Johnson for hair and makeup. We picked Mike because of his laid back surfer demeanor, great reputation, and beautiful pictures. Kramer Entertainment was recommended highly by many people and we loved working with Melissa. Rhonda was recommended by Mike and I trusted his advice. All of the other amazing vendors were selected by Lollipop.

Paratinovia: What would you do different?

Brittany: Not one single thing!
