Hello Para ti Novia readers! My name is Kelly Oshiro and I am an event designer and wedding planner based in Santa Barbara. Today I thought I would share what’s currently inspiring me, and the trends I adore for 2010.
1. Vintage and retro touches.
Birdcage veils have been popular for the last two years, but I’m also seeing, tea length dresses, 40’s style hairdos, tons of vintage containers (think colored glass and old coca cola bottles, mason jars), gloves (either short or long), vintage phones, old typewriters and even bikes are turning up for decor.

2. Colors
With my clients anyway, yellow and purple seem to be coming up a lot. I love the color combo together or separately. For bridesmaid’s dresses, gray and plum are projected to be the hot colors for 2010. Also I’m seeing a lot of more muted base colors in creams/taupe and then a pop of color from the flowers.

3. Eclectic
A lot of brides don’t want matchy-matchy tables with the same containers and linens. I love mixing colored glass (either vintage or new) to create an eclectic look that still looks cohesive, but has an organic quality to it. Likewise, using two or three printed patterns for runners that have similar colors also creates variety with being busy.

4. Rustic
Santa Barbara is home to some of the most gorgeous ranches in the world (think rolling hills with oak trees and ocean views) and a lot of these properties are now available for weddings. The rustic touches, unfinished wood, hay bales for ceremony seating, and barns for the receptions are immensely popular. Again the mood is homey, intimate and not stuffy.

I hope these tips have helped inspired you to design and plan your own intimate, eclectic wedding!
