Try though you may, it’s impossible to predict and prevent everything that can possibly go wrong on your big day. But don’t fret! Most wedding day disasters can be fixed (without guests ever knowing that things didn’t go according to plan in the first place). The real key is to play it off like the cool, calm, and collected chic that you are. Here’s a peek at 5 possible wedding day disasters—and some quick fixes to get the day back on track, fast.
1. You’ve got about 10 extra people at the reception, which means you’re short on food and space.
How to avoid it:
Have your maid of honor call up guests who haven’t RSVP’d about two weeks before d-day to find out who’s coming and who isn’t planning on showing. It’s also a good idea to check with your caterers and find out of they prepare any “extra” meals—if the answer is no, then pad your final head count by about 5 people.
How to deal with it:
Hunt down your wedding planner or catering manager. They can probably squeeze a few extra chairs around certain tables, or else set up your stragglers in the cocktail area with a few plates of appetizers.
2. Oh *&^%! Someone just spilled something on your dress!
How to avoid it:
Keep track of where your dress will be, and the room where you’ll be getting ready, and banish all juice, wine, lipstick, etc.
How to deal with it:
If something does manage to get on your dress, take a deep breath and don’t freak out. Whip out the chalk (an essential part of your bridal survival kit) and white out the stain as best you can. Remember, everyone’s eyes will be on how gorgeous you look…most people won’t even notice the spot.
3. The best man forgot the rings.
How to avoid it:
Bring them to the venue yourself and hand them over to the best man before the ceremony is set to begin.
How to deal with it:
If you’re ring-less when the time comes to say “I do”, ask your parents, in-laws, or best friends to borrow their rings for the ceremony. You can have your priest bless your actual rings later.
4. Rain!
How to avoid it:
There’s no real way to avoid those sudden spring showers, but you can be prepared for them by having a backup plan. An emergency “go-to” spot to head indoors or duck underneath an outdoor tent is always a good idea.
How to deal with it:
If it looks like rain, and you don’t have an indoor reception hall, send your groomsmen or bridesmaids out in search of a rental tent ASAP. If all else fails, pick up some umbrellas in your wedding colors.
5. The DJ is a no show.
How to avoid it:
Confirm dates and times with all of your weddings a week before your wedding day.
How to deal with it:
Today, nobody goes anywhere without their MP3 player in tow. Collect all of your friends IPods, hook them up to a stereo, and get your groove on.
