Dream Honeymoon Destination: Portugal

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

By: Veronika Lazabal

Dramatic scenery, gourmet cuisine, adventure and romance all combine to make Portugal a honeymoon destination location like no other. Why settle for a boring vacation when you and your man could be celebrating your nuptials in a place alive with history and excitement? Once you’ve decided that a Portuguese honeymoon is right for you, consider some of these amazing things to do:

Walking Tours of Lisbon

The best way to see the capital of Portugal is definitely on foot! Make sure you pack some comfy shoes so that you and your querido can explore the city’s history. (Lisbonwalker.com is a fabulous resource for scheduling a free tour with a knowledgeable guide) Try taking a spin of downtown, the bohemian Barrio Alto, or—our personal favorite—a tour of some of the places where spies from all across Europe met during World War II. For a small fee, you can even arrange a private walk for just you and your honey.

Port Tasting at Vila Nova de Gaia

The port wine center of the world also happens to be one of the most romantic and picturesque cities in Portugal. Spend the day at a wine tasting, and then snap some amazing pics throughout the afternoon. Want to spend more than one day in Vila Nova de Gaia? (We can’t blame you… it’s an amazing city!) Check out the museums, art galleries, and the Santo Inacio Zoo. Finally, don’t forget to spend some time listening to Fado (the Portuguese version of the blues) over a delectable dinner.

Thalassotherapy Spa Treatments

Portugal has some amazing spas. Among the wickedly delectable options available here are thalassotherapy treatments. The use of natural sea water, minerals, and mud baths make for some sexy spa activities. Spend the day getting pampered, and you can both enjoy the benefits of your super soft skin.
