Feeling crafty? Why not try creating one or more of these easy and inexpensive flower centerpieces for your wedding celebration. It will help access your floral mojo, and be kind to your budget!
1. Floating Centerpice
You will need one to three glass vessels (depending on your table size, budget), a few large floral blooms in your favorite color, and some clean water. Fill the vase(s) with water, cut the flower right below the head and place the bloom(s) in the vase so they float. Some great blooms that float beautifully are peonies, dahlias, or even pin cushions. Because you are only using a few blooms, find interesting flowers with texture and color to make a splash.
2. Single variety flower centerpiece
You will need a container of your choice, and several stems of one type of flower. You may need five to ten stems depending on the type of flower. {For tulips gather ten to twelve or even more if you want a bigger arrangement; for flowers like peonies you will need a lot less around five to eight} You will want to arrange the buds of the flowers so that they are all at the same height. So, simply gather all of the flower stems together in your hands. One you have arranged them at the same height, then tape or rubber band the stems using floral tape you can get at your local flower supply house. Then, cut the stems all at one length, and place them in the container. Voila… instant arrangement!
While choosing a container, consider your theme. For example, you may try a terracotta pot or decorative urn for a garden setting. Or you might want a large set of mason jars for a more homespun look. For an elegant affair, try clear glass in square shape or antique gold works. In choosing your flower type, go for one or more colors.
3. Planter Centerpiece
You will need a fresh green or blooming plant, a decorative container, and some garden moss. Take the plant, and place it in the container of your choice. Cover the exposed dirt with the garden moss and there you have it. Don’t worry about removing the plant from its original container. Keeping it contained will save on the mess and allow guests to re-plant and further enjoy the centerpiece in their own gardens! You can create this simple and practical arrangement several days in advance.
