My boyfriend and I had been dating for two years when he asked me to accompany him on a trip for work over the weekend in Peru. To my surprise the flight stopped in Guatemala, where I was born, and he told me that our flight to Peru had been delayed so we would have to stay there for the night. I was extremely excited because I knew it would be no problem to stay with my family, however I couldn’t reach anyone. I was extremely upset because it would have been a great opportunity for my family to meet the love of my life, and for me to see them, but it just didn’t work out. After picking up our luggage, a car picked us up and drove us through the city and through Guatemala’s enchanting mountains to a town called Antigua. We stopped at my favorite hotel in the city and again to our dismay they said they were all booked. We stayed at a less than favorable hotel and got dressed for dinner. My boyfriend told me to dress up pretty because he was giving me the dinner I had been wanting. For months I had been complaining about our lack of romantic dinners, but with both of our busy work schedules and his consistent lack of creative affection made romantic dinners a rare occasion. We ended up having dinner at my favorite hotel in the most beautiful ancient room with long melting candles and white rose pedals scattered on the table and floor. It was so beautiful. As we started to sip on our wine and chat, the conversation melted into words about our love for each other and out of nowhere a gorgeous white dove flew to our table and tied to its foot was a small silk pouch. He untied the pouch and began his proposal. Of course I just immediately started sobbing with happiness, and as soon as I said yes and we shared a passionate kiss, two immense wooden doors opened to unleash my entire Guatemalan family and my father, mother, brother and sister who were living in the US. The sobbing fest continued and the adoration for my new husband to be and my new wedding ring was unstoppable. The most amazing part was when I saw my boyfriend greet my Guatemalan family, he had already been down here to meet them without letting me know and they had accepted him as part of the family without hesitation, which was a miracle considering my five over protective cousins, and three extremely over protective uncles. It was bliss, and the night only got better as we were taken to a bigger room with a long table for everyone to feast. As the night came to an end, he had one more surprise waiting for me. As we were leaving a server handed him a key and he led me down a hall to our suite. We stayed in Guatemala for a week, he had gotten work off and had contacted my boss for me too. It was the most enchanting week of my life and I just CANNOT WAIT to spend the rest of my life with him….
