Consider Carrying a Family Pendant
Friday, February 26th, 2010By: Jennifer Juhos
Some of us may not be so lucky as to have all our loved ones at our wedding. Fortunately, there are ways to honor those family members or dear friends who are no longer with us.
A simple & thoughtful way to preserve the memory of someone is by keeping a single ceremony chair in the front row empty with a lovely note or ribbon. Guests will take notice and walk by the chair to find a subtle, kind remembrance.
Keep someone close to your heart while you walk down the aisle by attaching a charm or small photo of him/her. A florist will be able to pin or incorporate the item into your bouquet or ribbon handle.
Keep someone’s memory close by adding a fashionable heirloom to your wedding attire. Broaches or vintage jewelry will bring flair to most dress styles and allow you to share a legacy of someone meaningful to you.
Incorporate a photo or series of photos in a visible area of your wedding to keep a memory alive. A sign in or escort card table during cocktail hour may seem perfect so that guests can take their time viewing the photos. Another area may be a fireplace mantle or coffee table in a lounge area.
These subtle gestures will involve your guests and allow you to keep your memories close!

Registry Ideas We Love: Deposit a Gift
Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010By Veronika Lazabal
Ladies, let’s talk about gift registries. They can be a great way to pick and choose what you’d love to receive for your new home. Plus, they’re the perfect way for friends and family to shop for you and your beau without stressing over whether or not you’re going to like what’s in the box.
But what happens when you’ve already got a toaster, dishes, and not one, but two glass punchbowls? What if what you really want is to take a fabulous honeymoon, or make some home repairs on that great little fixer-upper that you just put a down payment on? Let’s face it, times are tough right now, and sometimes cash would just make the perfect present. Not that you would ever ask for money as a wedding present… it’s just not done, right?
Well Deposit a Gift is changing the way a lot of people think about gift registries! Forget impersonal envelopes of dollar bills or standing in department store lines to exchange that food processor for cash. Deposit a Gift is an online cash gift registry service.
Here’s how it works: You sign up online, and set up your very own wedding page—where your guests can go to get updates on the big day, wedding details, see pics of you and your future hubby, and check out your registry. You can let your peeps know exactly what you’d like, and they contribute money towards specific parts of your dream. Instead of buying you “stuff” they put dinero into an account that you can cash out after the big day.

||
Total flexibility… and completely hassle free. Now there’s a bright idea in wedding registries! Check below for an example of what your registry site could look like and some video tutorials!

Real Wedding: Danielle & Alex in Ilhabela, Brazil
Monday, February 22nd, 2010How did you and the groom meet?
Alex and I met online: we were both accepted to the same graduate program at Johns Hopkins, and there was an online forum where you could meet the other incoming students. I asked if anyone else spoke Portuguese, and Alex was the only one who did. After meeting for drinks one night in Brazil, we spent the next year emailing and talking over the phone because we went to different campuses; I was in Italy and he was in Washington DC.
How long did you date before getting engaged? How did he propose?
Once we were together in the same city, it didn’t take long before we both knew we were meant to be together, and we were talking about getting married soon after. Our wedding was more than four years after our first posts to the online student forum!
![]() |
||
What were the main colors & theme of your wedding? Is there any significance to your colors?
Our colors were red, purple, and deep pink. I wanted to create an ambiance full of powerful, bold colors against the backdrop of white linens and calming blue waters. I am pretty girly, and many of my guests said that the decorations really reflected my personality.
![]() |
||
![]() |
||
How did you choose your wedding venue?
My family lives in Rio de Janeiro and Alex’s in Sao Paulo. We wanted a location that wouldn’t really favor either family, and someplace that would be safe and easy for foreign travelers. Alex had grown up spending vacations at his family’s beachhouse facing the island of Ilhabela, and it so it held quite a bit of sentimental value.
![]() |
||
Once we decided on Ilhabela, the venue itself was easy; it was the best place on the island for a wedding. The pier had outdoor space with views of the marina and the mainland and benefited from an indoor reception area with air conditioning, bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a bar. As an added benefit, it was at the edge of town, so guests were able to have a variety of hotels and inns to choose from within walking distance to the venue.
![]() |
||
Did you integrate any special elements?
I said my vows in English and Alex said in Portuguese, and then we danced our first dance to salsa music in Spanish!
![]() |
||
In Brazil, the recent trend has been to give Havaiana flipflops as party favors, which all of the out of town guests adored. Did I mention this made everyone able to kick off their heels early in the evening and keep the dancing going until late? We also had a traditional Brazilian wedding cookie, “bem casados”, wrapped up in little linens and bows for guests to take with them.
![]() |
||
As a gift from one of our guests, we had locally made gourmet popsicles handed out of an ice cream cart to keep guests cool at during the reception.
![]() |
||
What part did your coordinator play in helping you make those decisions?
My mother-in-law is amazing; she’s the best coordinator I could have ever hoped for. She helped find the best vendors in the area, talking to people who had done weddings in the area to see what they recommended. I also spent hours looking at photos from other brides who had gotten married in the same location and was able to determine what decorator, caterer, etc. I knew would fit my tastes just from the photos.
![]() |
||
My wedding coordinator got involved in the last month or so of the wedding planning; she made sure that all of the vendors knew what their roles were and orchestrated the activities on the day of the wedding. She was also a great source of support for all of the guests who didn’t speak Portuguese.
![]() |
||
What would you do different?
I fell down the stairs after getting ready; right before walking down the aisle! A few words of wisdom: wait to put your heels on at the ceremony site. If they’re brand new and leather bottomed, they’re likely to be slippery.

Exclusive Access: Quiero Mi Boda Season 1
Saturday, February 20th, 2010Chicas, we are excited to bring you full access to Quiero Mi Boda Season 1… Watch current episodes and see whats coming up!
Quiero Mi Boda: Season 1
Beth & Josh
Beth and Josh’s wedding story at ages 20 and 21, seems to have been pulled
out straight from a fairy tale. At a young age, and with no financial support from
their families, the couple has managed to use their life savings to have their
dream wedding… Vegas style. With an 11p.m. curfew, no cooking experience,
and very little income, the Mexican bride is convinced that this is the perfect
time to get married. Her parents, set on their strong conservative Mexican ways,
are totally convinced of the opposite and truly doubt their daughter is ready to
become a traditional housewife. On the other hand, Joshua’s all American
family would be more than happy to see their son marry, only of course, if his
future wife converts to Christianity. It almost seems like Beth’s Catholic Mexican
wedding with church bells ringing and mariachis playing might just not happen
as she dreamt. The only thing certain about Beth and Josh is the true love for
each other and their desperate desire to finally be away from their parents’
rules.
Ethel & Martin
When Martin and Ethel decided to take their relationship to the next level, they
realized how different Jewish New Yorkers really are from Catholic Guatemalans.
To start off, Ethel as any full on Latin bride would do, is determined to pull an all
nighter Latino dance reception party, far from knowing that Martin and his
family strictly refuse to dance at all. Absolutely nothing guarantees family
integration, especially considering the language barrier that will present itself as
a major obstacle on party day. And to top it all off, Martin is getting fed up with
his in laws’ cultural demands and Ethel’s insistence to have her dog be part of
the ceremony. The clock will tick and unforeseen troubles might just cause the
groom to be late to his own Wedding! With all the drama going on, will this be a
white wedding or will it be the bloodiest battle of the year?
Cindy & Maykel
One might think that Cindy and Maykel don’t have many differences. They’re
both from Caribbean islands, both are successful professionals and both have
interesting personalities. But Cindy is the typical intense Dominican bride who
wants to micromanage her own wedding and she is dragging Maykel down
with her. However, it has been Cindy’s strong character that has united her with
Maykel and pulled her away from her parents’ strict Pentecostal religion. After
leaving countless voicemails citing bible quotes, Cindy’s parents have had to
accept the reality of a non-religious ceremony. And it doesn’t end here. Open
bar consumption and Ice sculpture shots might just lead Cindy’s parents to
exiting the party before they even cut the cake. It seems that this couple is
about to discover the true consequences of merging two strong Caribbean
Cultures.
Coming Soon…
Yisel & Max
At first glance, Yisel and Max might seem like your typical soon-to-be-married
couple. But everyone has a story to tell and Yisel and Max’s love story is anything
but average. First of all, Yisel comes from a traditional Catholic Mexican family
where the norm is for the woman to serve her man at all times no matter what;
Yisel won¹t have any of that. On top of it all, she has been putting up with her
mother setting her up with “nice Mexican boys” all because she is the oldest of
four siblings where two have already gotten married.
Enter Max, the dashing Air Force pilot who seems like everything Yisel has
dreamed about in a man. Not so fast though. There’s a catch: Max lives in a
different state, moves frequently from military base to military base, he’s five and
a half years Yisel’s junior and must be married by a rabbi, per his father’s wishes.
All these obstacles have turned Yisel into such a stressful mess that she’s lost
almost 15 pounds! And if that wasn’t enough, she’s been forced to find a rabbi
all by herself in addition to planning her own wedding because Max is so far
away. Will she be able to make it to the altar in one piece or will she lose it all to
a nervous breakdown?

Rukiya & Jose

Being an interracial couple is the smallest difference Rukiya and Jose have
faced over the course of their relationship. With a very strict Haitian mother, a
father who has been around very little and a set of traditional Dominican
parents Rukiya and Jose are still trying to find a tactful way to tell their families
about the engagement. However this is not an easy task. Fearing their parents’
reactions has led Jose and Rukiya to hold off on spilling the news until a month
before the wedding. Jose’s Dominican family wants a civil wedding first and a
church wedding much after, but Rukiya’s strong tempered Haitian mother
would never accept her daughter living with a man unless married under the
eyes of God. Rukiya wants a three language ceremony, which Jose opposes.
Jose wants a Dominican cake and Rukiya wants a Haitian one. With endless
fights on the way, a month might be a lot for this couple. Will they make it to the
wedding day together or will they just have to end up calling the whole thing
off?
Premiering March 1st 2010 on MTV Tr3s @ 9pm
Heather & Hector
The Latino vibe captured Heather’s heart after she moved to Miami’s crowded
melting pot. After living the American style of life, Heather is now fascinated with
her very own sexy Latin lover. But little did she know that she was marrying him
and a whole new culture as well. From deciding on locations to decoration
colors and center pieces, Hector has done it all, and he’s done it in his own
Dominican way. Unfortunately, for this couple, the Dominican way does not
necessarily work. Changing venues and cancelled churches have led Heather
to question Hector’s abilities and have forced her to learn Spanish and the
couple to travel to Santo Domingo. As Heather puts her wedding puzzle
together and attempts to understand the Dominican slang, she slowly learns
what her wedding is about, certainly the opposite of what she ever imagined.
Premiering March 8th 2010 on MTV Tr3s @ 9pm
Indri & Victor

Talk about lost in translation! Indri and Victor who hail from Indonesia and
Mexico, have decided to get married after five long and difficult years of
communication problems and religious differences (Indri is Muslim and Victor is
Catholic)… While Indri tries to pass Victor off as Muslim, he’s becoming annoyed
at the entire situation. Therefore they have come to the conclusion of having a
civil ceremony all to the dismay of Indri’s stubborn dad who is doing all he can
to impose his Indonesian customs in the mix. Victor is starting to feel out of place
not only because of the cultural differences but also because his family won’t
be able to make it to the wedding due to the fact that they don’t have the
required US visas. Will Victor be able to put his foot down and have his Mexican
traditions take center stage or will Indri’s Indonesian traditions make a coup out
of the whole wedding?
Premiering March 15th 2010 on MTV Tr3s @ 9pm

Friday, February 19th, 2010Por: Candice Lapin

Quince Dress Spotlight: J Crew
Friday, February 19th, 2010Ok… I know what you’re thinking: J Crew? Um, a little too preppy for my taste, thank you very much. Don’t they do sweater sets? Well, the truth is, J Crew is a whole different place than it used to be. Hey… if the first lady shops there, it has to be cool, right?
You may be surprised to know that J Crew did a complete in-house 180 not to long ago, and are now designing incredibly chic wedding dresses that are amazing—and make stylish and unique options for your quince. Yes, a quince!
From princess dresses to perfect party frocks, these wedding and quince options are simple and chic alternatives to some of the more blinged out stuff. Not only are they the ideal choice for a chica that would rather not go with a traditional ball gown for her quince, but we also like them as second dress options after you have had your turn on the dance floor with your court. Amazing.
Oh, and the fact that they are ridiculously affordable? Well that’s just the icing on the (birthday) cake!

Wedding Traditions of Argentina
Thursday, February 18th, 2010By Veronika Lazabal
Planning a traditional Argentinean wedding? Look no further: we’ve got all the info you need to put together a fantastic soiree, complete with time honored customs straight from the heart of Argentina.
For starters, Argentinean couples don’t exchange rings during the wedding ceremony. Instead, they exchange wedding rings at the time of their engagement, and simply have the priest bless the rings at the church. Something else that traditional Argentinean weddings do without is large bridal party. There are no bridesmaids, groomsmen or maids of honor. The groom’s mother and bride’s father (or a similar parental figure) escort the couple down the aisle, and stand with them throughout the ceremony.
When it comes time for the reception, modern Argentinean weddings often reflect the fact that the country was once a melting pot for Jewish, Spanish, and Arab immigrants. For example, instead of a continuous meal, followed by dancing and music, it’s not uncommon to alternate each course with a few songs on the dance floor. (A custom that began as a Jewish influence, and is now simply a part of traditional weddings in Argentina)
And, of course, the waltz is quite often replaced by a sultry tango in Argentinean weddings, as well.
Tradiciones de Bodas Argentinas
Thursday, February 18th, 2010By Veronika Lazabal

Adele Wecschler: The Bridal Designer You Need to Know
Tuesday, February 16th, 2010We’re all about planet friendly weddings: Recycled invitations, balsa wood flowers, (you know, the ones that last forever) and locally grown, organic foods… It all sounds fantastic. But eco-friendly dresses? Yikes! Hemp and burlap bags come to mind.
However, after last weeks amazing Project Runway, I dare say don’t discount hemp or burlap! In fact, you might be saying – I might just want a burlap dress! Yet, most brides have trouble equating eco-friendly dresses with eco-chic style especially in the absence of Tim Gunn’s watchful eyes.
Well, with our latest designer spotlight – Adele Weschler – you really can be both eco-conscious and super-stylish!
In fact, Adele Weschler put the fabulous in eco-fabulous wedding dresses. Her designer wedding dresses are beyond stylish and seriously affordable. Designing for the “bride who cares about the world in which she lives” has led Adele to create some of the most beautiful collections of environmentally friendly wedding dresses we’ve ever seen. Period.
Need another reason to look into these exquisite gowns? How about the fact that you can get two dresses for one? With Weschler’s “Chrysalis” gowns, you have the option of a traditional long, formal dress for the ceremony that converts to a shorter, more laid back version of itself for the reception. Now how’s that for fabulous?

Monday, February 15th, 2010How did you and the Groom Meet?
![]() |
||
How long did you date before getting engaged? How did he propose?
We are not very formal. We didnt even get engaged. In 2006 we went to Australia to live together for 01 year. When we came back to Brazil we found a house and started to live together. We couldnt live far away anymore. We used to live 45kms of distance.
In January 2009, a friend of ours came to visit. They talked about getting how they had gotten married and went to live in Spain. They started to talk about how good it was. They talked about how important the celebration was to them. All the positive vibration on it. So we decide to get married.
![]() |
||
What were the main colors & theme of your wedding? Is there any significance to your colors?
Everythimg was very spontaneous. We are surfers and wanted something very clean, beach style, hippie chic and natural. We choose the local typical flowers. Good for the budget and matched perfect with the place. The lace at the clothes is tipical from Brazil. ( and i was loved it !!)
![]() |
||
![]() |
||
![]() |
||
Did you incorporate anything unique into your wedding (Cultural Traditions and Latina Background)? Did you integrate any DIY (do-it-yourself) elements?
In Brazil at the new year´s eve we used to wear all white. We belive it brings positive vibrations, purifications…any many things hard to translate for me. Have a look at our website www.renataefabio.com.br
![]() |
||
Was budget a factor?
Budget was is factor but we didnt want anything to big , we belive “ less is more”. Clean and simple but at the same time sophisticated. Less means less money too. We focused on the importants things, location, food and fun.
Plus, the beach is all ready pretty and special for us we didnt need much to make it beatifull.

Bridal Planning Checklist: One Week to Go!
Friday, February 12th, 2010By Veronika Lazabal
The week of your wedding can be a hectic time. It may seem like there are a million things to take care of before you finally get to say “I do”, but here’s a checklist to make sure your final days as a single lady go as smoothly as possible:
Early in the Week
1. Pack your honeymoon bags and double check all of your travel arrangements.
2. Have your maid of honor call anyone who hasn’t RSVP’d and ask if they’re coming.
3. Confirm with your limo or transportation company—give them a schedule and accurate addresses.

Courtesy of Pink Posh Photography
The Middle of the Week
4. Contact your caterers and give them a final head count.
(It’s probably a good idea to ask if they make any “extra” meals in case any of your “I don’t knows” turn into unexpected shows.
5. Finalize all payment arrangements with your DJ, photographer, limo, etc. and then meet up with your MOH (or have your guy talk to his best man).
6. Hand over the checks, and give detailed instructions as to who to give them to on the wedding night.
7. Make sure you have picked up your marriage license.
8. Double check all of the details for the rehearsal dinner.
9. Do any last minute shopping for your honeymoon or wedding day kit.

Courtesy of Lin & Jirsa Photography
The end of the week
10. Enjoy your hair and nail appointments!
11. Put together your wedding day survival kit.
12. Make sure your thank you speeches and notes are written down.
It may seem like you don’t have any time to do anything other than organize and plan, but it’s essential that you take some time out towards the end of the week to do something nice for yourself. Go to the gym, catch a movie, take a walk… anything that lets you decompress and clear your mind.

Tuesday Tip: Mix Mustard Yellow with Blue
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010This week I have really really focused on blue but certainly wanted to give you a bit of a new direction-mustard.
The pairing can be quite incredible. We loved this particular shade of mustard against the robin’s egg.
On the Table:

Look how chic the escort cards look….in brown with the yellow and blue.

The white hydrangea do an incredible job of muting the brown and letting the blue really shine.

Boda Real: Laura y Robert en Los Angeles, CA
Monday, February 8th, 2010¡Hola chicas!
![]() |
||
![]() |
||
![]() |
||
![]() |
||
![]() |
||
![]() |
||
![]() |
||
![]() |
||
![]() |
||
![]() |
||

Real Wedding: Laura & Robert in Los Angeles, CA
Monday, February 8th, 2010Hi Chicas,
We are so thrilled to have you check out this weeks incredible wedding at Union Station. Not only are the bride and groom incredible people but their story is wonderful too.
![]() |
||
How they Met:
We met at the gym. I had just moved back home to LA from college (UC Santa Barbara). When I joined the local gym, I ran into a friend, Ed, who I hadn’t seen in years, who also worked out at this gym. He was the one to introduce me to my husband, as he was also a friend of his (total coinsidence).
![]() |
||
And the rest is history–after a few times of running into each other at the gym, I asked Robert if he wanted to grab a cup of coffee “one of these days,” and of course, he accepted:) We met up the following night at a coffee shop…
We dated for 5 years, 3 months before he proposed.
![]() |
||
The proposal:
It was on a weeknight. We had been out running some errands–a night like many others. When we got home, it was already dark, he went outside to our backyard to fetch our dog. I settled in on the couch, took off my shoes. I noticed he was back there longer than usual, but I just figured he was playing with our dog. He asked me to come outside because he wanted to show me something.
![]() |
||
I kind of grumbled to myself being that I didn’t feel like putting my shoes back on and get up from my comfy spot. When I went outside, I found him on one knee holding something in his hand, dog next to him wagging her tail, and he says, “look what i found.” It took me a few seconds to register what was going on…needless to say, I figured it out.
What were the main colors & theme of your wedding?
Our colors were fall-inspired, being that we got married in October. Burnt orange, with splashes of gold, yellow, red. My bridesmaid’s dresses were “mango tango.” As far as the theme, we didn’t specifically set out to have one, but I am very much inclined to the old, classic look, which our venue (old L.A.), my dress, my hair style embodied to a certain extent.
How did you choose your wedding venue?
Our venue was Union Station’s courtyard and Fred Harvey room in Downtown LA. After doing a good amount of research and visiting several different venues, as soon as we did a tour of Union Station, it felt “right” for a variety of reasons.
![]()
![]() |
||
First, it’s historical significance to the city was something we appreciated, being that we both grew up in Los Angeles and many of our roots culturally, emotionally, an socially are deeply embedded here. Second, it had such a timeless feel to it, like one stepped into a time warp, which was right up my alley in my affinity for all things classic.
![]() |
||
Third, from a logistical stand point, it was one of the few (if not only) venue that allowed us access to the venue on the day of the wedding for 24 hours, thus making things easier not only for us, but for our vendors. There also wasn’t a concern with noise levels after a certain time, and we kept the party going until midnight. Most other venues we contacted only gave us access for 5 hours on the day of, or wanted the party to be wrapped up by no later than 10pm.
![]() |
||
Incorporate anything unique into your wedding?
Well for starters, my husband is culturally mixed. He was born in Argentina to a German-Spanish mother and Japanese father. I was born in Los Angeles (Culver City) to Mexican parents–I’m second generation Mexican.
![]() |
||
My husband moved to LA with his family when he was 7 years old, and has lived here since. Specifically, he grew up in Culver City, which is where I grew up as well. With that said, we did incorporate traditional elements into our event.
![]() |
||
My husband built a traditional Japanese Torii Gate, which we were married under. In Japanese culture, a Torii Gate is a traditional entry into any sacred place. Our invitation design also carried a subtle Japanese theme by incorporating cherry blossoms. Our Latin background was present in our musical selection. We had a quartet, Cascada de Flores, play during the ceremony and dinner, and their music is reminsicsent of old traditional Mexican songs with a mixture of Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican sounds.
![]() |
||
I actually surprised my husband during the ceremony and sang him an old song by Jose Alfredo Jimenez, “Que Bonito Amor,” which I had coordinated with the musicians beforehand. Cascada de Flores was amazing and were well received by our guests. As far as DIY elements, as mentioned above, my husband built the Torii Gate; my maid of honor and I made the place cards and table numbers.
![]() |
||
How did you pick your team?
I picked my team through tireless research, word of mouth recommendations, and meetings with vendors. We did not have a coordinator, so all the decision-making was entirely up to us! We did have a friend who very graciously volunteered to be our day-of coordinator, but again, all the planning, selecting of vendors, etc. was executed by my husband and I.
![]() |
||
Was budget a factor? If so in what way?
Budget was a factor, although we were well aware that we would be going over. The key was knowing how much we could go over and knowing what items we could compromise on. For instance, we went with the most cost-efficient rentals in terms of chairs, linens, and dinnerware because we felt that the Fred Harvey room itself was so beautiful that we did not need to break the bank on these items, and thus, we opted for simplicity. We felt that we’d let the decor of the room and the floral centerpieces speak for themselves.
![]() |
||
What would you do different?
Honestly, we are so happy with how our day unfolded, that I don’t know if I would do anything different. All of our vendors were extremely professional, reliable, and delivered the quality they touted from the outset. And the proof of this was how our guests perceived our wedding; we have received numerous compliments on everything from our caterer (quality of food and service), our music, flowers, photography, etc., that it’s hard to say that there’s something I would do differently.

Tip 1: BUDGET, BUDGET, BUDGET
Stick to you guns girls. Its a recession out there. And, we can’t spend the same on a wedding like we used to. But, that doesn’t mean you can have a fabulous wedding. We just need to figure out where to spend and where to splurge.
1. Who is paying for the wedding?
Good question. Who is paying for your wedding. If you are a young Latina chica out there, most likely you may have family helping to pay for part or the entire thing. But, how much have your parents thought about putting towards the wedding….
2. Have you Talked with Your Parents About Their Contribution?
If your parents or family is contributing, have you had the conversation? Make sure you have this conversation!!! It is super important.
3. How much are YOU contributing?
Now if you are a little older, it is likely that you are also contributing to the mix. Yeah! It can be so fun to actually start helping right?
4. Make a List of Who is Contributing and How Much!
Ok, now once you start figuring out who is contributing, this will totally totally help!!!
You will need to start thinking about little things like cost of food, the dress, alcohol, party favors, etc. So you want to be fully armed with all the information you can get about how much you will be able to spend.
Trust us, you need to know so that you can start planning all the fun stuff.
AND….btw whether your budget is big or small – you can have the wedding of your dreams.

Our sophisticated, congenial staff will provide the ultimate, value-oriented dining experience for any occasion. From corporate dinners to bridal showers, baby showers and rehearsal dinners, we’re here with the perfect combination of settings, menus and amenities to create an unparalleled event for you and your guests. The Prado at Balboa Park is a National Historic Landmark which was originally built for the 1915-16 Panama-California Exposition. This two year festival was held in Balboa Park to promote San Diego and to celebrate the 1914 opening of the Panama Canal. The House of Hospitality recently reopened after complete reconstruction and modernization. The 3-year renovation restored the building’s architecture, artwork, sculptures, alcoves, gardens and fountains.
Our Take:
The Prado at Balboa Park boasts of both a wedding ceremony site and an assortment of reception rooms to choose from at their venue. The Prado’s ceremony area is adorned with fountains, terraces and even a wishing well to add that special uniqueness to the wedding ceremony. This site offers multiple reception rooms: the Grand Ballroom, with hardwood floors and twenty-seven foot high hand-stencilled ceilings; the Loggia Room, an elegant room which opens to the courtyard below; and finally the Alhambra Room, opening to a private balcony enabling guests to take in the views from the beautiful gardens below .

Adventure Honeymoons: Active Escapes for Daring Couples
Thursday, February 4th, 2010By Veronika Lazabal
Sipping Mai-Tai’s while lounging by the pool at a luxury resort may sound like heaven to some, but there are plenty of thrill seeking chicas who would much rather spend their honeymoon on a wild adventure than lying in the sun. If you and your man are a little more daredevil than couch potato, then consider one of these active honeymoon ideas:
Tokyo & Mt. Fuji
It’s tough to beat Tokyo for a fast paced, urban, and completely unique honeymoon. Add to the adventure by planning a nighttime hike to the top of Mt. Fuji. The world’s most recognizable mountain (and Japan’s highest peak) is spectacular from any angle—but it’s hard to beat the view from the top. Set out early, and you’ll make it to the summit in time to see the sun rise.

Belize & the Mayan Ruins
You’d be hard pressed to find a more exciting place to honeymoon than Belize. Kayaking, scuba diving, rain forests, and jungles all make for a different adventure on every day of your vacation. But make sure you set aside some time to visit the Xunatunich and Cahal Pech Mayan Ruins. The former home of a Maya royal family, these ruins are amazingly well preserved—and a once in a lifetime trip.

Egypt, the Nile & the Pyramids
To the kings and queens of ancient Egypt, the Nile River was the source of fertility, luck, and life. Today, you can start your honeymoon with a sail down the Nile, and then take in the sights and sounds of Cairo before embarking on an adventure to Giza and the Pyramids.

Lunas de Miel Venturosas para Parejas Atrevidas
Thursday, February 4th, 2010By Veronika Lazabal

Belize & Las Ruinas Mayas

Wow!
The Blog: Ethereal Blue and Ivory
Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010Each wedding tells a story. A color story about the bride and groom. This week, I fell in love with this beautiful aqua and white story. Romantic and ethereal, the flowers were also sort of architectural and cool.

Each bridesmaids carried lilies. The Bride carried an assortment of flowers.

See the white rununculas, peonies, and other flowers. They aren’t perfect, the are perfectly picked and arranged in the same shade of white.

I loved how simple this looked. But regal right?

Now look at the all in a row with flowers thrown around. Amazing right?
Color Inspiration Board #23: Opaque, Deep Purple, Rosy Pink
Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010How about an off the beaten path color combination for brides looking for an alternative to dreamy pastels? When it comes to color combinations, black and white are always a big hit. Here, they go from formal to feisty with the addition of deep purple and rosy pink hues!
