When it comes to infusing some Latin flare into your reception, food and drink is a great place to start. You can use your bar and catering to set up a theme, and help carry it throughout your party. Looking for a great place to start? Why not come up with a signature drink or two to get the fun started? Here’s our list of the top five Latin themed cocktails:
1. Sangria:
This completely delicious Spanish punch includes red wine, fruit, sugar and brandy.

2. Mojitos:
The classic Cuban favorite! Personalize them to your own tastes (and wedding colors) by making them raspberry, coconut, or even chocolate flavored!

3. Margaritas:
On the rocks or blended, these Mexican tequila based drinks are always a big hit with guests. Try spending the weekend with your hubby-to-be thinking through a few signature recipes with cool names.

4. Caipirinha:
The national drink of Brazil, Caipirinhas are cool, refreshing, and wildly tasty—making them especially perfect for those outdoor spring weddings!

5. Cola de Mono:
Condensed milk, coffee, and brandy… delicious! (But watch out, too many of these and your best man may act like he’s the monkey).

No te Pierdas:
What’s better than an island for a honeymoon destination? How about 700 islands?! It’s tough to beat the Bahamas for variety. After all—you can spend one day in the total solitude of a deserted tropical island, the next in the excitement of a Vegas style casino, and the one after that on a dolphin swim and zip-line adventure! Here’s a quick peek at a few can’t miss hot spots for your Bahamian honeymoon:
Eat Here:
Café Martinique on the island of Nassau actually made an appearance in a James Bond flick back in 1965—so you know it has to be cool. Retro fabulous dishes like Lobster Thermidor and stylish, plush décor make this restaurant a romantic must on your honeymoon.
Stay Here:
The Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort is one of the quieter all inclusive resorts in the Bahamas… which is exactly what you want on your honeymoon. Powder white sand and turquoise water are a dream come true—especially when their only steps from your room.
Don’t Miss:
There are a few area attractions you’ve just got to take time out of your beach routine to see! Take a tour of the Bacardi distillery on Paradise Island, where you can sample up to 60 different rums; visit the gorgeous statuaries of the Versailles Garden and the 14th century French Stone Monastery that sits above it; or spend a day exploring Crystal Cay—the zoo and aquarium that takes up an entire island.

¡posiblemente sean perfectas!

We always try to bring you the very best in terms of gifts, which is why when we were out and about and spotted MOR Cosmetics we thought – Yes, The perfect bridesmaids gift! Why didn’t we think of this sooner?
Founded by two talented Aussie’s who both had, of course, design backgrounds, MOR is an amazing celebration of both ladies’ love of adventure and travel. They founded the company in 1998 after a trip to India. (MOR means Peacock in Hindi… a description that could not possibly be more perfect. We’re sure you’ll agree once you take a look at their gorgeous products!)
Craft your own gift set or buy one of their amazing gift boxes. We can’t get enough of the amazing scents and beautiful packaging. Check out the soaps from the Emporium collection for a treat in the most beautifully wrapped, exotic paper you’ve ever seen. No doubt, anyone who gets these gifts will be a friend for life (and have a few of your friends wondering why they didn’t get asked to that shower or to be in the wedding party).

Ladies… Here’s a color palette that’s crisp, classy, and completely sophisticated. Pearl makes a fantastic option for chicas that don’t want to go with traditional white, and we absolutely adore coral and light orange as “classic” pink alternatives.

For a touch of the unexpected, grape accents in the flower arrangements and personalized wine bottles make these tables shine. Consider working a little regal flare into your own boda with purple touches to offset your color scheme.

Texas brides… you are so lucky! Not only do you have tons of amazing venues and wickedly yummie caterers to choose from—you also have some of the best wedding photographers in the lower 48. Case in point: Pink Posh Photography!
Creative, sexy engagement and wedding pics with a modern twist set Pink Posh apart from a lot of other area photographers. Started by two sisters, Pink Posh’s work is an amazing study in contrasts: feminine and flirty with a keen edge; playful use of light and shadows, and surprising choices in scenery, props and background.
But the best part about using Pink Posh for your wedding photography is the way they capture the emotion and excitement of your big day in a completely personal way. Take a look at their bridal gallery, and you’ll see exactly what we’re talking about. No two pictures are exactly the same—and every bride looks happy, comfortable, and completely enthralled!

How did you and the groom meet?
We met through family…. family is extremely important to both of us. There are so many reasons why I fell head over heals for my husband but his love of family was definitely on the top of the list.
How did he propose?
It was New Years Eve and we were at his sister’s house. My whole family was there and I was totally clueless to what was about to happen. One of his sisters asked that we stand in a circle and one by one share what we were thankful for in the past year and share our hopes for the coming year. It was very touching to see our families bond and share such a special moment, I remember feeling so lucky at that moment. All of a sudden it was Gerry’s turn (at exactly 12:00 am), he turned to me and started telling me how lucky he was to have found me and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me!!!

What were the main colors & theme of your wedding?
Dark Silver and Aqua with magenta accents.

How did you choose your wedding venue?
A lot of research online. ”Best destination wedding forum” was a life saver

Did you incorporate anything unique into your wedding?
Not sure I can say anything was “unique” I’m sure it’s all been done before. I spent a whole year copying and pasting images from wedding blogs for inspiration, however, I did put a twist on a couple of things to make them my own.

Did you integrate any DIY (do-it-yourself) elements?
Everything! My husband and I spent countless nights cutting, pasting and putting things together. Invitations, Pre-travel passport package, Welcome bags for the guests, Programs, tulle pommanders for the flower girls, Menus, Escort cards, matches, things for the cigar and guest book tables… etc etc etc.

Finding the right setting for your wedding can be difficult, but what better place to look for inspiration than your heritage? Cultural centers, Spanish style hotels, museums, historical sites, Latino(a) owned restaurants, or missions all make great places to get hitched.
And don’t forget the decorations! Brightly colored table linens, glass wear, or china are a great place to start. Swap the baby roses for jewel toned dahlias for another Latin touch. Mexican themed weddings look great adorned with papel picado, Puerto Rican receptions traditionally have a doll dressed in a bridal gown at the head table, and Guatemalan tradition dictates that the bride and all of her bridesmaids wear matching white dresses.

Ever wonder what kind of fun stuff wedding professionals do for their own nuptials? Wendy Ramos, coordinator extraordinaire of Just Wenderful in Los Angeles recently got hitched herself. Following the festivities, she staged one of the best Trash the Dress photo sessions we’ve seen in a long time.
You can tell just by looking at Wendy’s face (and her bright red Chucks) in these pics that she had a blast doing this spread. Follow her lead for your own TTD shoot—think outside the box, and look to completely unexpected and creative places to take those pictures.
The best part of a Trash the Dress session is the fact that it happens after the wedding itself is over and done with. That means that you can go crazy, like Wendy did, without fear of messing up your frock. Hey… you’ve found the love of your life and don’t plan on needing the wedding dress ever again anyway, right?
So instead of shrink wrapping your gown and stashing it in the back of your closet, why not send it off with a bang? We love the way Wendy paired hers with fun props and accessories. From her gorgeous dried flower bouquet to her parasol and even the wickedly naughty bottle of red wine, these pictures are unique, fun, and totally unforgettable.

Looking for a fun, funky and totally fabulous place to spend your first few nights as a wedded couple? How about the Ace Hotel, in none other than sultry Palm Springs, California? Once a playground for only the richest of Hollywood’s elite, today’s Palm Springs is an affordable getaway— a place where any new bride can feel like a superstar for her honeymoon weekend.

And when it comes to your Palm Springs Honeymoon, you’d be hard pressed to find a hotter hot spot than The Ace Hotel. Besides being a completely fantastic throwback to Palm Spring’s golden age, The Ace also plays host to lots of fun and romantic activities for you and your honey to take part in.

How about side by side guided horseback riding? Smoke Tree Stables, just steps from the hotel, offers guided rides through the stunning dessert landscape. Once you come off the dusty trail, kick back at The Ace’s sparkling swimming pool—or quench your thirst with one of their signature snow cone cocktails. (Very yum)

Or, for a day that’s as romantic as it is relaxing, why not book some treatments at the hotel’s spa? We love the unfussy, streamlined look of the cedar lined treatment rooms; and we’re betting that even the most manly-man can be convinced to spend a few hours getting pampered in here. (If he’s still reluctant, just remind him that you’ll be naked… that ought to do it!)

If you’re looking for something a little more active in your honeymoon escape, why not work up a sweat playing golf (at the gorgeous Indian Canyons course), tennis (at the Palm Springs Tennis Court) or hiking the Indian Canyons trails. And then, you could finish up your night indulging your sensual sides at the hotel’s two restaurants.

For affordable luxury, The Ace Hotel is Desert Gold. Click here to book your room.

She’s Got a Way With Me).

Did you integrate any DIY (do-it-yourself) elements?
Yes. The DIY elements not only saved money, they made our wedding day a little more personal. Our Save-the-date postcards, flowered monogram letters, programs, menu cards, cocktail napkins and out-of-town welcome bags were some of our projects.

Ready for our latest wedding? Yes it has been a few weeks but we are finally ready for our first wedding of 2010. Our first featured couple of the year hail from Houston, Texas!
How the first Met:
“Jackie”: Jim and I met during our junior year of high school. We tried our hand at love then, but realized we were better off as friends. Twelve years later we came to meet again through classmates.com. After exchanging emails and phone calls for months we decided to meet for dinner. The rest they say, is history.

How he proposed:
“Jim”: Jackie is a tough one to surprise. She has good intuition. She is a planner and asks so many questions that she’ll get to the bottom of what’s going on. So I knew I had to put an elaborate plan together and I sat on the ring for several months trying to come up with the best and most memorable proposal in the history of proposals. I knew I wanted to do it as a separate event and not tie it into a holiday or some sort of New Year’s countdown. And to Jackie was sure I was going to do something, so when the holidays past and I hadn’t done anything, she was upset. Two weeks before the date was picked I rushed to put something together. I didn’t know exactly how I was going to do it, but I knew I wanted to surprise her and I knew that I wanted our families and close friends, that mean so much to us, to be there to share it with us. First, I made sure her sister was there unexpectedly from out of town, I had to have a plan for all of my family from out of town too, her son was in on it, and of course I had to talk to her Dad and ask for permission all without the novice detective in my house knowing a thing…..
I started off with making it as we would have the weekend to our selves, but nothing big really planned. Maybe we would go out, maybe we wouldn’t. We started off the night with us going to dinner. Unknown to her everyone was already at the restaurant waiting on us. They didn’t know if I was going to ask her there or ask her before we got there. I wasn’t sure either.
We starting pulling out of the driveway on the way to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants (running an hour late) and I stopped the car “to get something I forgot”. I rushed inside, grabbed a bag of rose petals, put out and lit a 100 tea candles, and had the music on pause waiting for her to come through the door. I then called her to ask her to help me (she came in a little agitated that I had to call her to help for something I couldn’t really explain), I pressed play and she came in to me on one knee with our song playing in the background (Billy Currington – She’s Got a Way With Me). She was completely shocked, but the surprise wasn’t over yet….
We headed out and got to the restaurant (Cyclone Anaya’s) and went to the patio where I had reserved some tables before. Everyone was there. Her sister from Tulsa, my brother from Austin, my mom from Atlanta, and the really neat part is this was the first time our families had met and they were already enjoying each other’s company over a few margaritas before we even got there.
Still to date, the best surprise I have ever planned and in a lot of ways a surprise to me how it all came together. Sometimes the best things in life aren’t planned the way you want, they just work out and the memories you have are how it all came together….

What were the main colors & theme of your wedding?
We wanted our wedding to be a celebration of our love for one another, for our families and for our histories. We wanted rustic elegance and romance and chose some of my favorite colors for fall weddings: chocolate brown, ivory, gold and accents of sage.

Did you incorporate anything unique into your wedding?
First look- Originally, seeing each other before the ceremony was not part of the plan. Wanting to keep with tradition we didn’t even consider it. However, after speaking with our photographer regarding the time of our ceremony, we gave it a second thought. We are so glad we changed our minds. The quiet moments we shared together before the ceremony were special and didn’t take away any excitement when walking the aisle.

How did you choose your wedding venue?
We researched many venues around the Houston and surrounding areas for something “different.” The moment we walked the grounds of La Tranquila Ranch with Sandra we knew it was what we were looking for. With what we had in mind, we knew it would be beautiful.

Ceremony
We chose to hire a string trio to perform during the ceremony. Their sound was beautiful and a perfect match for the outdoor setting.
After Jim and I exchanged vows and rings, my son Aaron joined us in front for the Family Medallion Ceremony. During this time Jim and I presented Aaron with a necklace signifying the importance of our new family unit. We pledged our continuing love to him, and the three of us recited a family prayer. It was one of my favorite parts of the ceremony.

Incorporating Cultural Traditions and Latina Background?
To celebrate my Mexican heritage we had Mariachis perform during the cocktail hour and at the beginning of dinner. We also had our DJ, Mario, spin some of my families favorite Tejano and Salsa hits.
To honor Jim’s heritage we had Irish dancers perform after dinner. The traditional costumes and dances were fantastic. I also wore a sixpence, my something borrowed from my best friend Larissa, in my shoe for luck.

Custom cake toppers and cookie favors
Our custom cake toppers were a gift from my sister Monica, my maid of honor. Nicole, the artist, did an outstanding job creating our “mini-me’s.” The detail was incredible! Our custom Gig’em cookie favors were a tribute to Jim’s Alma Mater, Texas A&M University.

What would you do different?
During the planning process? I would have accepted the help offered by family and friends. By wanting to keep an “element of surprise” for our guests, I took care of the details on my own. Planning a wedding for 250+ guests was stressful at times.
The Wedding Day? No. Even though the day went by quickly, we enjoyed every aspect of it. My advice for future brides is to take time to look around and absorb it all. The amount of pure joy and love that radiated from our family and friends was overwhelming.

Looking for a cool way to incorporate a few Hispanic touches to your big day? We’ve got you covered!
Traditional Spanish weddings are alive with rich color and drama… why not borrow that feel for your own boda? And what better place to start than your dress?
Subtle Spanish touches include column dresses with Flamenco style ruffles along the hem, or a gorgeous lace mantilla veil. For something a little more dramatic, consider pairing a slim dress with a bolero jacket.
Touches of red and black are another way to add some Spanish flavor—on the wedding party, the groom’s tux and tie, even your dress!

Marriage is an adventure… why not start it off with a little excitement? Destination weddings can be a fun and playful way to get hitched… but they’re not for everyone. If you’ve always dreamed of celebrating your big day with 500 of your closest friends (or if you’re one of those novias that must design every detail of your reception yourself) then maybe a traditional wedding is more your style.
If, on the other hand, the idea of a smaller soiree in a fabulous location sounds like a dream come true, then it may be time to look into a destination boda.
Here’s a peek at some ideas to help you plan the perfect destination wedding:
Start with the legalities
If you’re planning on getting married abroad, make sure you do your homework long before the big day. You may need to have birth certificates translated, blood tests done, or forms filled out—the more you prepare beforehand, the less possibility of something going wrong.

Give your guests time
Send out your save the date cards about eight to ten months before the big day. That way, your friends and family will have enough time to request time off, save up air fare, and make any other arrangements necessary.
Decide what you can include
While you aren’t obligated to pay for your guests’ hotel, meals, or airfare, many brides choose to help out with some of the expenses. For example, instead of inviting 50 people, you may choose to pair the guest list down to 20 and offer to pay for part of the transportation costs. Or, you might set up the bridal party at the hotel where you’re staying. It’s also a nice touch to let your guests know that their presence is the only gift they need to give you.
Be the Negotiator
Regardless of how much you are paying for, you should try to hook your guests up with a good deal. Call a few airlines and hotels and try to negotiate a group discount; and if at all possible, plan your wedding for the “off” season, when things are more affordable. Also, come up with a list of nearby sights and activities—that way, you can convince your pals that they can make a mini vacation out of your nuptials!
Get there first
Plan on arriving a couple of days before your guests, and take note of how to get from the airport to the hotel, where nearby restaurants are, and any other “must know” facts that you can pass on.
Plan an after party
You might want to throw another reception when you get back home. It doesn’t have to be an elaborate affair… just a simple party for all those friends and family members that weren’t able to make it to your wedding.

Here are five dress buying tips from this months “real bride”, Miranda:
1. Do your research! Buy and borrow as many magazines as you can get your hands on, and search the Web for dresses that your eye is naturally drawn to. Don’t worry about fit at first…
2. Determine a budget… and stick to it. Call around to a few bridal boutiques and ask for their price points. There’s no sense in trying on a gown if you can’t afford it.
3. Carefully consider your knickers. What are you planning on wearing while trying on gowns? There’s usually a consultant in the room with you, so steer clear of any underthings that you don’t want others to see. (If, for example, you’re shy, you might want to rethink that thong)
4. Try on as many gowns as you can. Keep an open mind—you might like how the dress looks on a hanger, but on your body it might be “the one”.
5. Do your dress shopping as early as possible. Most designer gowns require about six months for processing, design and assembly… so the sooner you start looking, the better the chances of getting exactly what you want.

Fresh colors and sweet, delicate fragrances make spring flowers many a bride’s favorite. And while you can have any kind of bloom flown in from all parts of the globe, the fact is that if you stick to what’s in season and available, you’ll save a bundle on your florist’s bill. Sure, roses are lovely any time of year, but why not take advantage of some of springtime’s other gorgeous flowers? Here are our top 10:
1. Cherry Blossoms: Chic, sophisticated and elegant, they’ll add an element of grace to indoor or outdoor weddings.

2. Lilacs: In white or purple, these romantic blooms lend a dreamy look and romantic scent to bridal bouquets.

3. Lily of the Valley: Another great choice for spring bouquets, lilies look equally beautiful as part of arches and centerpieces.

4. Peonies: Fluffy, colorful peonies make amazing centerpieces and accent flowers throughout your reception décor.

5. Daisies: Does any flower say “spring” more than bright, colorful daisies? Pair them with poms for a playful look that’s perfect for a casual outdoor fete.

6. Larkspur: Tall and graceful, larkspurs are affordable and absolutely beautiful. Try a few different shades of blue to add depth to arrangements.

7. Pansies: Pansies are another affordable and colorful flower that looks spectacular as part of table arrangements. A member of the violet family, pansies can be a little delicate, so be careful about using them as the main attraction.

8. Hyacinth: Hyacinths happen to be one of this chica’s personal favorites when it comes to wedding flowers. Can you blame me? They’re the perfect combination of color, romance, strength, and femininity.

9. Sweet Peas: Aside from being beautiful additions to bouquets and arrangements, sweet peas add a sweet fragrance to your entire reception.

10. Irises: Irises are said to symbolize faith, love, wisdom and hope…making them perfect wedding flowers!

Attention SoCal Brides! We’ve found a Floral designer that’s going to knock your garter belts off. Based in sunny Santa Monica, La Partie Events is one of our very favorite wedding vendors, ever! What’s more, Megan Fickling, the owner and chief operating diva of La Partie is a totally rockin’ babe who’s completely in synch with the Para Ti Novia vibe.

Gorgeous centerpieces, distinctive bouquets, and wildly unique touches… you name it, and Megan can probably bring your dream wedding to life. And she does it all while being super organized and completely flexible.
(A fact that’s especially comforting for stressed out novias who are already fretting the countless details that go into putting a wedding together!) We’re not exactly sure where this chica gets all of her amazingly creative ideas, but there is one thing we’re certain about—when it comes to bodas, La Partie Events will come up with a slew of fun and classy ideas to make your big day completely one of a kind.
For example, when working with a Latina bride for a Palm Springs wedding at the Parker Hotel, Mizz Megan decked out the tables in a combination of elegant white and fluffy yellow flowers with fun fuchsia and green accents. Taper candles, a few vases, and even some citrus-come place holders made this set up one of the sunniest, most whimsical, and 100% gorgeous looks for a springtime wedding we’ve seen in a long time.

Whether you’re going for something totally traditional, uber modern, country chic, beach babe, or some fabulous twist in between, you can count on La Partie Events to design an unforgettable look for your soiree, too.

Planning your honeymoon in Belize? Who can blame you… with unspoiled beauty, unrivaled service, and tons of activities, it’s one of the best places to spend your first days as a wedded couple. Here’s a peek at our favorite hot spots:
Where to Stay:
Belize is home to hotels, lodges, bungalows… you name it, and you can probably stay there. Our choice for unforgettable accommodations is Pook’s Hill. This 300 acre property is all pristine jungle; gorgeously green and incredibly lush. Forget tents and watering holes—these romantic cabanas come equipped with private baths and electricity.

What to Do:
The beauty of Belize lies in its natural surroundings. Wildlife preserves, jungle zip lines, river rafting… you can do it all here. For a dose of history with your fun, make sure you carve out some time to visit the majestic Lamanai Mayan Ruins.

Where to Eat:
A casual dinning atmosphere and mix of culinary influences makes the restaurants in Belize delicious and fun. Our can’t-miss choice for an out of this world breakfast experience is Estel’s Dine by the Sea. Fresh squeezed juice and home made Johnny cakes taste even better when you get to wiggle your toes in the warm sand while you eat.

Planning your honeymoon can be a lot of fun—and if there was ever a time when you could use the promise of some much needed relaxation, it’s in the midst of putting together a wedding! Take a break from all the hectic activity and explore our top 5 out of the box South American honeymoon ideas.
Chile’s Lake District:
Deep blue mountain lakes, spectacular snow capped volcanoes, lush forests, year round outdoor sports and activities, and four star resorts make Chile’s Lake District one of the most pristine and beautiful getaway spots in South America. Perfect for spring and summer honeymoons, don’t miss out on Chile’s world class wine and seafood while you’re there.

Iguazo Falls:
On the Argentina/Brazil border are the Iguazo falls—a horseshoe shaped collection of 275 cascades spread over two miles of the Iguazo River. Taller (and twice as wide) as Niagara, the falls are hands down one of the most amazing sights you will ever see.

Los Roques National Park:
Los Roques Archipelago National Park in Venezuela is home to mangroves, coral reefs, and amazing sea-grass beds. If you and your honey are nature lovers, you’d be hard pressed to find a better suited honeymoon spot.

Machu Picchu:
In Peru’s Cuzco is Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas. While not a glamorous honeymoon destination, this historical and natural wonder is an amazing site. And what better way to get close to your new husband than by exploring one of South America’s greatest treasures?

Help! My fiancé doesn’t like any of the wedding venues I’ve taken him to see. What gives?
He Says: Hmm… he doesn’t like any of the venues you’ve taken him to see? I take it that means he didn’t get a lot of input on putting the short list together. Have you tried asking him what kind of venue he has in mind?
Remember, we don’t think like you guys—as in, you’ll never hear us using words like “charming” “adorable” or “quaint”. What we will give you is an honest description of what we like (something outside, a really nice hotel, that restaurant with the big televisions on the wall…) Ask him how he pictures your wedding, and work up a list of places that fit his description—and your own ideas—from there.
She Says: I’d have to agree. As novias, it’s easy to get caught up in our vision of the prefect wedding. But remember, it’s his day, too. So sit him down, butter him up with a cold Tecate, and get him to give you some concrete ideas on where he’d like the big day to go down.
That way, you can decide on a list of places that both of you would enjoy (yes to the hotel where you spent your first vacation, no way to the restaurant/sports bar where he goes after bowling night) without either one of you feeling pressured.
We Say: Communication and compromise are the most important part of any marriage… why not start now? Talk to your man before venue hunting, and he’ll feel like his opinion matters—making the whole day more fun for both of you!

When we got the call from the amazing Carolyn Gerin, yes ladies, the Anti-bride and editor of fabulous Destination I Do Magazine, we knew we had to share this incredible story with you. Recently, Tracy DiNunzio of Recycled Bride received word that one of the dresses on RecycledBride.com had a different kind of story.
Almost 10 months ago in April 2009, only a short while after getting engaged, Maria and Evan faced one of the biggest hurdles of their lives together. Evan had been hit in a serious car collision and faced paralysis after his vertabrae was broken.
Here is a short snippet from the Anti-bride:
“When Maria and Evan got engaged, they never imagined the challenges they would face together before walking down the aisle. They were busy and happily planning their wedding when an unexpected tragedy turned their lives upside down. On April 19th, 2009, Evan went to the grocery store to pick up some cereal and dog food. On the way home, he was in a devastating car accident that split the couple’s Toyota Corolla in half and sent it crashing through a concrete wall. Evan was seriously injured; his neck broken at the C2 vertebrae, a fracture that often results in paralysis or death.”

“Evan spent months in the hospital. He wore a variety of immobilizing braces and a halo that was attached to his skull with pins. After multiple complications and a risky surgical procedure, doctors predicted that Evan would make a full recovery — though they couldn’t say how long it would take. The couple didn’t know whether they should cancel their November 21st wedding. Doctors told Evan that he’d be lucky if he could walk down the aisle, let alone dance, by then.”

“Maria and Evan decided to go ahead with their wedding as planned, and were thrilled when Evan was able to joyfully walk down aisle. The day became not just a celebration of their love, but an expression of their gratitude to friends and family for seeing them through such a difficult time. All weddings are happy occasions, but Evan and Maria’s felt extra special to everyone who attended and knew how close they’d come to missing out on that day.”
“All was well, until the couple found out that the majority of Evan’s hospital stay hadn’t been covered by their insurance, and they were hit with staggering medical bills that would wipe out their savings and force them to start their married life deeply in debt. With Evan still out of work recovering, Maria began taking odd jobs while trying to secure a teaching position. With little money coming in and their medical debts looming large, Maria set about finding creative ways to raise money — including listing her gorgeous Maggie Sottero wedding dress for sale on RecycledBride.com.
“At first I didn’t want to part with my dress,” Maria says. “But then I realized that it’s just a thing, and that I was already holding onto the best part of that whole day – Evan! Now I’m glad that someone else will get to enjoy my beautiful wedding dress, and I hope it brings them the same joy that it gave us.”
“Maria’s gorgeous Maggie Sottero Vienna wedding dress retails for $1500 plus tax, but she’s selling it for just $1,000. It’s a size 6, in like-new condition, and is a beautiful, figure-flattering design that would make any bride look absolutely stunning. Recycled Bride is going to take care of first-class shipping for the dress, so the buyer will incur no additional costs and is guaranteed to receive the dress quickly and in great condition. Maria plans to use all of the proceeds from the sale to pay Evan’s medical bills.”
“Despite the challenges they’ve faced, Maria and Evan are as happy as two newlyweds could be. They even feel grateful in some ways for all that this experience has taught them. Maria says, “We joke a lot that after this ordeal, the rest of our marriage is going to be a cinch!”
“Now they’re just eager to pay off their debt and move forward. “Evan is back to work, but with only one income and trying to save for some kind of future, it will be hard to make things work and recover financially. It’s been a tough 2009. To sell this dress really would be the greatest blessing to start 2010.”

Palm Springs is great, and Niagara Falls is fun. But for an unforgettable honeymoon experience, nothing beats going south of the border. Think the list of Mexican honeymoon destinations stops at Cancun and Puerto Vallarta? Think again, babe. Here’s a look at three unexpected (and seriously romantic) places in Mexico for your post wedding getaway.
Zihuatanejo
With some of the most dramatic beaches we’ve ever seen, picturesque fishing village vibe, and non-tourist trap appeal, Zihuatanejo is easily one of the most spectacular honeymoon destinations on Earth. From luxury private homes to rustic bungalows or full service resorts, there are great accommodation options for every budget.

Manzanillo
You want to be pampered like a princess. He wants world class golf and fishing. You both want sensuality and romance. Nestled between Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo may just the perfect getaway for both of you. Lots of activities, gorgeous settings, ecotourism options and some of the warmest people in all of Mexico make this hidden hideaway the perfect place for an unforgettable luna de miel.

Isla Holbox
This tiny island is a whopping 26 miles long and doesn’t have a single shopping mall or night club. What it does boast, however, is unspoiled beauty, wildlife sanctuaries, and the romance and excitement of an off-the-beaten path vacation.

Here’s a bridesmaid 101 look at the duties of a maid of honor…
Her veil! Her train! Her flowers! Now you know why they call it being the Maid of honor… But do you need a little guidance on just what it means to be la dama de honor? Luckily for you, we’ve got maid of honor checklist just for you.
First and foremost: Congratulations! Obviously, the bride must think you’re pretty darned cool if she asked you to be her “wingman” on the biggest day of her life.
In general, your job as maid of honor entails catering to the stressed out bride—helping her with whatever she needs, offering emotional support, and keeping her sane. (Not an easy task, especially when she’s probably contemplating hoping on the next plane to Vegas) Depending on the bride in question, those maid of honor duties may include accompanying her on shopping trips and dress fittings, putting together centerpieces, or helping decide the color and flavor of the third tier on her cake.
But perhaps the most important maid of honor duties are to run interference between the bride, the guests, and the bridal party. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Introduce yourself early on in the wedding process. (The engagement party is always a good time to let everyone know who you are) Give guests your phone number, and let them know that they should call you, and not the bride, if they have any questions about the venue, registry, etc.
- If the couple is expecting out of town guests, familiarize yourself with the area where the reception is going to be held, and send out an email letting them know that you’re taking on the maid of honor duties. Nearby hotel and restaurant information is always helpful.
- Maid of honor 101 dictates that you stay on top of the bridal party! Make sure that all of the bridesmaids have been fitted for their dresses, everyone shows up to the rehearsals on time, and (if it’s an out of town wedding) that everyone makes their travel arrangements when they should.
- On the day of the wedding, help ensure that things run as smoothly as possible—and that your girl is enjoying herself. That means adjusting her train while she dances, making sure her dress looks faboo for pictures, passing her the powder when her nose looks shiny, and reminding her to take a sec and eat.

Thank you to La Partie Events for her beautiful set of arrangements and planning.
The Color Palette
The bride chose from a special palette of Artichoke Green, Plum, and Blush. Meg from La Partie events incorporated the color palette beautifully into the table decor incorporating green in the artichoke.

The Bouquet
Meg then incorporated the artichoke again in the bouquet. She then took elements of the entire palette and reflected them back. Really gorgeous peonies don’t you all think?

The Groom’s Boutineers
Now check out these amazing boutineers. Incredible right? She used simple succulents and roses but the look is so chic because the succulents are always casual and cool.

There was a time when a groom’s only duty was to show up on time to the ceremony. Luckily (at least for the ladies) that’s all changed. Today’s novio plays an active role in the putting together a great wedding. Of course, most dudes aren’t fluent in “wedding speak”, so here’s our comprehensive list of dos and don’ts to keep you active during the planning process. (And spare you the scathing looks and flying frying pans she may be tempted to send your way).
Do let her know you’re part of the team
Nothing will make your bride to be happier than knowing that you are taking a genuine interest in your marriage plans. Let her know that you’re ready and willing to help her make decisions—and then follow through.
Don’t be MIA when it’s time to register
Your wedding registry is an opportunity to choose the gifts you would like to receive from friends and families. Now guys, keep in mind that you will need something other than power tools for your new home—think dishes, linens, and glassware. But you should definitely put in your two cents as to your favorite colors, textures, and shapes. And, of course, once the basics have been covered, feel free to add that drill you’ve been eyeing.
Do help her Decompress
A big part of the reason she loves you so much is probably because of the way you make her laugh… especially when she’s stressed out. So make sure you set aside some time every week to just enjoy being with each other, without talking about wedding plans.
Don’t (ever!) say “I don’t care” when she asks for your opinion
For that matter, steer clear of “whatever you want” and “it’s up to you”, as well. While it really might not matter to you whether the color of the cake frosting is ivory or pearl, remember that it’s important to her. She may be looking to you to validate her opinion or make sure that you’re taking an interest. So take a look, pick the one you like best, and then just smile when she chooses the other option.

You may have guessed it, but the blog is really more of a casual discussion of what we think is absolutely the most beautiful and ethereal in weddings right now.

How gorgeous is this floral arrangement? I mean so lush and so beautiful – it looks like it came straight out of an anthropologie catalogue. We are in particular loving things in blush, merengue, white and purple. Especially with Spring just a little ways away….

We were peaking through some of JL designs incredible posts when we came across this incredible and sophisticated photo shoot for a gorgeous deep plum, silver and white wedding.
Ok. let’s take a peek. I absolutely love plum especially for a winter wedding. Its a great alternative to black and reads many different ways. Perfect for a hipster bride, a Grace Kelly wedding, or even a backyard event like a rehearsal dinner.
So ladies if you have just gotten engaged and are thinking about planning a November, December, January or even February wedding and want an alternative to black (one of my personal favorite accent colors) then consider plum!
Let’s start dissecting the details already!
The Table Numbers
Look how amazing these simple plum and white cards. Its all in the thick card stock and beautiful font. It doesn’t have to be expensive. Its about picking beautiful simple chic cards.

Now look at the back…yes that is the table numbers on the backside of the cards but in french!!

The Table Details
We love the jewel on the napkin. Its incredible!!

You’ve met the love of your life. He or she popped the question and you’re engaged, now what?
Announce Your Engagement!
One of the first things on your to do list, is to announce the engagement. Excited phone calls to family and friends may be your first instinct, but formal engagement announcements are also a good idea.
There are several ways to announce an engagement, such as sending an announcement to a local newspaper. Mailing printed engagement announcements is another way to spread the good news. Stationary stores and bridal shops may have ideas for printed announcements or you can create your own on a home computer.
Plan an Engagement Party
A fun way to celebrate your engagement is with a party. An engagement party can range from something informal, like a backyard barbeque, to a formal sit-down dinner. Consider holding your engagement party several months before your wedding if possible.
One of the most important things to do after you’re engaged is set the date. When selecting your wedding date, consider weather conditions certain times of the year, especially if you want an outdoor reception. Give yourself enough time to plan the type wedding you want.
Decide on a Style for Your Wedding
Spend time deciding on the style of wedding your want, such as a theme wedding. Maybe you prefer something traditional, such as a formal dinner at a ballroom. Destination weddings are also popular. Deciding on the theme or type of wedding may help you select a venue.
Select Your Venue
Next, make a list of possible wedding locations. Visit venues to determine if they fit your style. Once you find a venue you like, check availability. If you’re having a hard time finding an opening at the venue of your choice, consider having your wedding on a Friday evening or Sunday. Those days of the week may be less busy than a Saturday, when many weddings are held.
Starting Scanning for Color Palettes
Once you select where you will hold your wedding and reception, decide on color schemes and start researching vendors, such as bands, florists and photographers. It may be best to make a budget ahead of time to determine what you can spend on each.
There may seem like there is still a hundred things to do, such as choosing your attendants, making a guest list and planning a honeymoon. It can get overwhelming. Stop, take a deep breath and remember to enjoy planning the celebration of one the happiest days of your life.
