Keeping it Green….Top Eco Friendly Wedding Decorations

Friday, October 30th, 2009

by: Veronika Lazabal

Regardless of the colors you’ve chosen for your bridesmaids’ dresses, table cloths, or bouquet, there’s always room for a little green. Add a touch of planet friendly flare without creating a budget meltdown by simply swapping out some of your current ideas with greener choices.

For example, skip the rice toss in favor of biodegradable or water soluble confetti in your wedding colors. Or, for a whimsical touch that’s also eco-conscious, why not forgo the traditional place holder cards in lieu of personalized seed packets or natural honeycomb candles that double as favors? We love the selection of green wedding decorations and favors at Beau-Coup.

A little “green” thinking on your part will ensure that both you and the planet get to live happily every after.

Testimonials:

“The hotel was everything we could have wanted in an event space. Nestled between the tower and the Capitol, the hotel presents itself with all the dignity and weight of its neighbors. Combine that with its modern design and sanctuary—like the courtyard—and you have a setting both regal and intimate, the exact setting we wanted for our wedding. It is hands down the best event space in the city.”

Get your Groom Involved in the Wedding Day Planning

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Is you groom sitting on the sidelines as you pull you hair out? How do you get your hubby-to-be excited about the big wedding day planning? And, what activities can you give him to do?

While invites may not be a the forfront of his mind, consider putting together things like:

1. His and Her Signature Drinks

Have him start experimenting with DIY drink menues

2. Get him involved in the food

They say the way to a man’s heart is through food – Start getting him involved in the catering and food selection

3. Music

Is he showing any signs of life? then consider giving him the all important task of working with the DJ on song selection.

4. Favors

Now this particular favor idea is more an extension of music.  Have him help select a set of songs to put on a Wedding CD.

Real Wedding: Rosie & Jesse Rodriguez at the Trump

Monday, October 26th, 2009

By: Veronika Lazabal

When childhood sweethearts Rosie and Jessie Rodriguez came to planner Andrea Williams-Hart (of HP Events Global) to plan their California wedding, they wanted an event that reflected the love and friendship that they had built over the course of their thirteen year relationship.

What they got was so much more—a dream ceremony and reception where, surrounded by everyone that they loved, they were able to celebrate their union at one of the most beautiful settings in southern California.

rosie_jessie

The Bride

Rosie, like all intrepid young Latina brides, was faced with a zillion complicated choices when it came to creating the perfect soiree. One thing that needed no questioning, however, was the selection of the ideal venue. At her fiancés insistence, they chose the Trump National Golf Club on the bluffs of Palos Verdes for their first walk through. There was no need to keep looking; it was love at first sight.

rosie_floor

The Music

Making the evening even more unforgettable was music by their favorite Mexican band, Banda el Recodo. Being treated to music by a group that’s played with such artists as Vicente Fernandez and Juan Gabriel helped infuse the reception with the feel of their Latin roots.

The Venue

One look at the magnificent grounds and sweeping vistas of the Pacific, and it’s easy to see why they choose this setting to celebrate their union. With the elaborate crystal chandeliers and hand carved limestone fireplace, the ballroom lent itself beautifully to Rosie’s regal color choice of purple and silver tones. Rich eggplant and sharp silver contrast beautifully (while the purple subtly incorporates the sports-friendly couple’s love of the quintessential L.A basketball team- the Lakers).

The Table Decor

The tables were bathed in gorgeous rose petals and blooms in a color palette of purple, violet and mauve. The bride and her planner Andrea Hart selected rich blooms with low and high centerpieces for visual interest.

From the proposal on the beach to the spectacular golf course “I do’s”, Rosie and Jessie’s wedding was a dream come true. We should all be so lucky…

Plan a Honeymoon to Koh Samui, Thailand

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

By: Candice Lapin, Founder

Yes I love to travel, so when humanly possible, as the Founder and CEO of Paratinovia, I will be offering my tips on places I love to go and how to travel like I do (when I get to travel that is.

This month I wanted to focus on a honeymoon in Koh Samui. Anyone that knows me knows I love a good deal and hate to spend too much on any vacations.  So I usually like to travel on a budget.  I will be sharing my tips as often as possible for how to travel like a princesa no matter what your budget.

This week, I am helping all my brides who are thinking about planning a trip to the Thailand and in particular to Koh Samui – a beautiful beach island.  Here are some tips to travel in style to Thailand (within budget that is….)

Where to Sleep

Ok I am going to map out some high, medium and low options just in case you are like me and don’t always want to spend all your hard earned dough on the hotel.

1.   The Library (High)

The Library is the swanky of swank on the island of Koh Samui.  Located right on the beach, it blends all the high style of a Phillippe Starkk hotel with the beach bliss of the island (including the cheap beach side massages).  I love the bar in the hotel where you can get muddled anything.

4/1 Moo 2, Bo Phut, 84320 Koh Samui, Suratthani, Thailand. Click here to head to The Library.

2.   The Briza (Medium)

The Briza beach resort is a great mid-range hotel that will make you feel like you are the Emperor of the Far East…or the Empress. I stayed at this hotel as well as at the Punpreeda.  The Briza is also on Chaweng beach but set back so you don’t have to deal with tons of people that are usually all over the beach. This was a beautiful hotel with a lot of amenities and each villa had a separate person to help you with any requests. I loved the hotel and I loved that it was close to any of the thai massage huts that are scattered on the beach.

Oh, yes, actually as a side note, all along the beach there are beds laid out for guests of all the hotels to get inexpensive and really amazing Thai massage.  How great is that?  I absolutely loved getting a massage everyday – they only cost roughly $7.

3.  Punpreeda Hip Resort (Low)

Beachfront villas on bophut at a reasonable price, now that it is something to be happy about. The Punpreeda Resort is the perfect place to help you totally detox and relax honeymoon style.  It mixes the beautiful architecture of newer resorts with great food and a great view of the islands of Thailand.  I stayed here.  I got the best of the Library feel with the Briza level of service.  The Punpreeda staff waiting on me and were so nice and great to talk to.  Plus, I loved that the pool was actually right on the beach.  I could go back and forth swimming either in the ocean or in the pool depending on my mood.

Where to Eat

Try The Pier or Carpe Diem for a cool foodie option.  These two places are much more expensive but for a special night out they can be a welcomed getaway.  Local ex-pats really love the food and the effect on your wallet of  Starfish and Coffee.

For more inexpensive fare, I would definitely suggest asking your concierge for recommendations for anything that is local.  All of the food is excellent and vacations should be about some exploring! I would  pick a restaurant that had the kind of menu I was looking for, if I felt like curry that night I tried to find the best curry on the island.  But, ask around everyone at the hotels and even the guests are so friendly.

What to Do

Now if you have traveled all the way to Koh Samui, you definitely want to start exploring the island as well as all the fun water activities.  I absolutely loved going to see the incredible island of Koh Phangan.

You may also love going to explore all the incredible waterfalls, temples and wats (other temples) on the island.  Head to the Big Buddha.  I absolutely loved it as well as the butterfly garden.

Book a Green Wedding Venue

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

by: Veronika Lazabal

So you’ve made the decision to go green with your wedding… now how do you find a venue that vibes with your planet-friendly plans?

When looking at hotels and reception halls, look for the LEED or Energy Star certifications to know that a company is eco-minded. But quite possibly, your best bet may just be to take your reception outdoors.

Parks, beaches, forests, or vineyards provide stunning atmosphere; all while keeping decoration costs down. (And without the need for energy draining lights) Also, choosing a venue that most of your guests don’t have to travel far to get to will help keep your wedding’s carbon footprint at a minimum.

TIP OF THE DAY: Dress your Bridesmaids in Shades of a Color

Dress your bridesmaids in “shades” of a color.  Not everyone has the same body shape, nor do they necessarily look good in the same color. It will still look unified and elegant, just with a whimsical flair.

Do or Don’t: Adults Only Wedding Reception?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

by: Veronika Lazabal, Contributing Editor

One of the wonderful things about being Latina is that we get to share all of our special moments with our (often large and very extended) family. But when you’re putting together your wedding budget, that same group of loving relatives can suddenly seem overwhelming. And while some brides are choosing to cut costs by having an “adults only” reception, others can’t imagine the thought of not sharing their special day with even the youngest members of their family. If you’re considering excluding any little guys from your reception, take a moment to go over a few key points before making the final call:

How young is too young?

While some brides stand firm that everyone at their reception must be of voting age, others are content to keep the guest list at twelve and over. Take a moment with your fiancé to go over your wants, as well as the children in your families. But keep in mind that it’s important to be firm in your stance—either all children are allowed, or none.

Who’s writing the checks?

If you and your betrothed are paying for the entire reception yourselves, then by all means, exclude away. If, however, your parents (or anyone else) are paying, then they should have a say in who gets an invite.

Are you ok with no shows?

Keep in mind that when you designate your wedding reception as a no kids zone, some adults won’t be able to make it either– whether from lack of a babysitter or simply because they’d rather not leave their children.

In the end, it is your wedding, and therefore your decision. Making the right one for you is a completely personal choice. One that your familia will understand, either way.

Wedding Inspiration Gallery 3: Vibrant Coral and Robin’s Egg Blue

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Looking for that perfect blend of vibrant color.  When we spotted this amazing color palette of rich coral and blue on Cat and Adi Benner blog (nextexitblog.com), we couldn’t help but stare. Vibrant color set next to each other in this pattern can take a wedding from interesting to inspired.

Let’s review some of the amazing choices the bride made:

The Color Palette:

This bride chose to pair very vibrant colors next to each other in a way that blends beautifully. Robin’s egg blue (otherwise known as Tiffany blue) is a perfect wedding blue and goes so nicely with coral pink.

coral_blue

Aisle Decor (Reception):

Vibrant hot coral pink, which has been very in style this Spring and Summer, was carried into the ceremony.  Pink sashes were brought in to reserve seating for key guests like the mother and father of the groom.  Tight round balls of hot coral pink hydrangea were dangled from seats as aisle decor. Flower girls carried faux purses of moss and pink florals down the aisle.

breewed61

Table Decor

The tables were set with a silver/pewter table cloth and then a hot pink runner was placed atop to anchor the colors brought into the room.  The bride then selected clear glass chargers, which give the table such a beautiful Cinderella look.  Each place setting was finalized with a blue napkin.  Pink florals were brought in to complete the look.

breewed7

Flowers and Candelabras

The florist (Dandelion Ranch) chose to work with pink peonies, rununculas and various greenery to achieve this whimsical garden look which adds a bit of lightheartedness to a very sophisticated table.  Flowers were also used on the candelabras. In fact, the florist used hot pink carnations which were dropped into the various bulbs of the candelabra for a more casual feel. And, we absolutely loved it.

Trajes de Novia: Vístete para el éxito

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Faaabulous, Dahling… 2009’s Hottest Wedding Dress Trends

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

By: Veronika Lazabal

Listen up, savvy brides to be, for I am about to share with you the absolute hottest wedding dress trends for 09. I’ll wait while you grab a pen and a martini… Ready? Here it is: our list of what’s hip, hot and oh so cool for weddings dresses in 2009.

Grecian One-Shoulder

Looking to find that unique blend of fashionable but sweet.  Grecian goddess wedding dress flowed down the runway.

Lace Details

Oscar de la Renta was channeling the new Southern Belle when he designed both 2008 and his new 2009 collections. French guipure lace fabrics are light and airy and perfect for a summer wedding Gulf Coast style.

A-Lines

2009’s hottest wedding dresses will fall into one of two categories: beautiful ball gowns and bohemian chic. Ball gowns are seeing a huge resurgence in popularity this year- especially full, over the top A-Lines.

The Little White Dress

The little white dress was all over the runway and Spring collections for 2009. So lucky for us that this fun trend appeared down the wedding runways as well. Opt for a short flirty dress to go with a more whimsical wedding. Short dresses are definitely not traditional so your little white wedding dress will be sure to standout.

Mod Flower Children

On the other end of the spectrum, 60s inspired bohemian flower child dresses are big hits with brides seeking a more laid back, earthy wedding vibe. Think spaghetti straps and ruffles. Melissa Sweet has chic pillbox hats and short sheaths that sing of 1960s.

Do the Bridesmaids a Favor

And say goodbye to those peach tulle contraptions that used to be bridesmaid dresses. Do your wedding party a huge favor and embrace the idea of re-wearable, fashionable dresses for your girls. Instead of going traditional, look at some of the great cocktail dresses at Max Azria/BCBG or J.Crew.  The dresses are incredibly wearable and chic.

Now, go forth and shop with confidence, my dear.

Wedding Favors: Chocolate Truffle Wedding Favors

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Creating your own favors for a bridal shower or even your wedding can be a fantastic way to put your individual stamp on an event.  Remember, the great part of creating your own favors is that you can be creative!  So, this is a great opportunity to consider your colors or theme.  For those of you who are bridesmaids, you can easily take your bride’s theme and translate it into a lovely token or small gift.

For this particular DIY favor creation, we used simple boxes and let the color of the ribbon dictate the embellishment. We love this favor box for a fall bridal shower; with all the leaves changing, the red ribbon is great way to celebrate the season and changing leaves.

What you will need:

1.  White Boxes (head to your local craft store)

2.  Ribbon (you can achieve this look by going to a fabric store and asking for grosgrain ribbon with saddle stitching)

3.  Red Tissue paper (available at any craft store)

4.  Truffles (you can head to a candie store or even a grocery store for these amazing truffles)

5.  Stamp (also available at a craft store) [Martha Stewart has some amazing crafting materials at any Michael’s which are nationwide)

Step 1: Creating the look

For this you will need the white box and the tissue paper.  Open up the box and start folding it appropriately to create the box.

Step 2: Stamp the box

You will then need to stamp the box with whatever message you would like to convey. For this particular project, we chose a red color ink and fun toast to share for a bridal shower event. Now test it out on another paper.  Then once you have sufficient ink on the stamp, stamp the box.

box10

Step 3: Fold the tissue paper

Then take the tissue paper and cut it in half or in thirds (longways). Remember these are small boxes so you need about 1/3 of the tissue paper.  Once the tissue paper is cut. Fold the tissue paper the longway so that it fits neatly into the box.

box4

Step 4: Prepare the truffles

You will need to determine how many truffles actually fit in the boxes you have purchased. Now fill the box accordingly. For our project, we used four truffles.

box9

box11

Step 5: Seal the Box

Now, close up the box.  You will want to tuck the truffles in with the tissue paper and then fold the box top.

box8

Step 6: Tie the Ribbon

Once you have sealed the box, remember to take your ribbon and tie a simple knot for a simplified effect.

Quick Tip:

In order to get the boxes to look uniform and professional, we suggest doing one tester box.  Then once you have determined the length of the ribbon that is appropriate for the box, use that ribbon and cut all the other ribbons based on that ribbon.

Wow Juan, these pics are amazing!

The Color Palette

From the food to the decor, this creative bride turned her love of Jonathan Adler into an amazing feast and feast for the eyes.  We love this incredible palette of yellow, orange, white and green. Remember, Leslie and Juan’s wedding, this green seems to crop up in a lot of our weddings. Are you seeing a theme?

We are huge fans of kelly green, chartruese and moss green.

Description:

I am inspired by you. Inspired to create out of the subtle moments of your life when you are truly 100% you.  That is why I take pictures.

I am not your typical wedding photographer. In fact, there was actually a time when I could say that I didn’t like most wedding photos I saw out there. I began to think maybe there was something I could bring to it. To create a new way of seeing life and love.

I began to feel inspired by the people I photographed and challenged myself to continue t push the limits of my own creativity.  I have grown a true passion for creating through the lives of the awesome couples I have had the opportunity to shoot.

I have spent hours choosing the photos throughout my site that I have felt struck something inside me.  If you have felt something as well, then chances are we are an awesome match!

Cheers to your life and love!

DIY Wedding Menu: Plan a 4-Course Winter Wedding Menu

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Ok so the fall has quickly come and will soon make way for  the cool and crisp air of winter. Like any bride, you are in the final stages of pulling together your menu.  Yes the menu!

Of course, every Latina bride has her own family traditions and family expectations and the food just cannot disappoint.  But, of course it won’t. Here are some great ideas for you and your hubby to be to consider.

Remember, if you go green or local, you will need the extra time in planning the meals, especially if some of the ingredients are local so you can plan for any seasonal foods and delivery.

We have designed a meal that consists of suggestions from appetizers to main course to desserts.

Course 1:

Even if you have passed starters and appetizers, you can always pass a few trays featuring a plate of gold and silver chocolate arras (coins) or sugar cookies in a shape of a ring.

But for the majority of your starters:

1.  arepas with pulled pork and pickled onions

2. carne asada with black bean and goat cheese dip

3. fried tortilla chips and fish ceviche with tapas.

4. gelatin tequila shots for the adults

5. fizzy gelatin blocks for the kids

6. pasteles or empanadas

Course 2:

Remember, this is the time to bring in crisp tasting salads and rich creamy soups….

1. Cassava and corn breads

2. Avocado, cucumber and tomato salad with a lime and cilantro dressing

3. Creamy pumpkin soup.

Here is a suggestion for an alternate menu:

1. Flatbread

2. Lettuce, tomato, and cucumber salad in oil and vinegar

3. Cuban black bean soup.

Course 3:

Now for the main meal!

1. Ropa vieja, otherwise known as a beef stew which can go along well with rice and beans and a side of fried plantains.

Suggestion 2:

1. Curry goat with the rice and beans and fried dumplings on the side.

Course 4:

A traditional wedding cake made with nuts and dried fruit soaked in rum and sprinkled with powdered sugar

Suggestion 2 for the fourth course

Rasberry flan plated for each individual.

These guidelines can be adjusted to the needs and tastes of the guests who will attend. Check in with cooking groups and ethnic cooking magazines for more suggestion for menu items and how they are prepared. Advanced planning will save you time and money.

Bride Testimonials:

Thank you for making this weekend the best of my life. You were truly amazing and made everything flow with such ease. Thank you, thank you. S.D

Dear Ryan,

Thank you so much for all you did to make Katie’s wedding so special. Every time I turned around you were doing what I did not want to do – attending to details. It made our night carefree and fun. I know it was a big job and I appreciate all you did. Thank you again. K.D

Ryan-

I really don’t know where to begin with this one. I’ve been thinking the entire week how to accurately describe how thankful I am. I mean how do you say to someone, “Hey thanks for being so unbelievably incredible and amazing at what you do that you just happened to make 3 days of my life more special/memorable/beautiful than any other of my entire life?” See what I’m saying here?

From the moment Shannon met you, she raved about you, and after getting to spend a little time with ya, I can see why. It was such a pleasure to have you there for our special day. Thank you again for everything that you did. We are both forever grateful Ryan. Have a wonderful day!

T.D

Ryan,

You rock!! Thank you for making the wedding of our dreams a reality! Your attention to detail, ideas, and answers (to our many questions) helped us so much along the way. We couldn’t have done it without you. It was the perfect night and our guests keep telling us it was the best wedding they have ever been to!! Thanks again!!

All the best,

L.T

Dear Ryan,

Thank you for being such a fun, friendly, and always up beat person. Thank you for taking care of so many of the wedding details at the end, so that Brian and I could just have fun. With love, M.C

Do-It Yourself: Daisy Chains for your Wedding Decor

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

by: Candice Lapin

If you read last month’s Martha Stewart magazine, you may have seen a story about her pop up wedding chapel in Brooklyn, NYC. An incredible feat for sure.  We loved in particular the incredible paper flowers that she hung up all around the chapel that she strung together for a unified look. They make for an incredible back picture backdrop in one section of your wedding or we love it for a bridal shower lunch.

So for those of you who love do-it-yourself touches, we wanted to showcase this Daisy Chain idea that we came across on Rachel Thurston’s blog.  Chic, simple and color coordinated, Rachel’s incredible project began because she wanted to remember all the reasons why she and her soon to be husband fell in love right before their wedding.

How she did it:

She took paper in three different colors to keep the look simple and coordinated. She and her fiance then wrote different things that struck them about being and staying together.  How Romantic!

For a twist, try using flowers in various colors to match the theme of your wedding.

Incorporating it into your Bridal Shower

We have all heard about all the different games that can be played at a bridal shower. What if you in addition asked your guests to write one thing that they wish for you and your hubby to be on various colored paper or flowers or whatever paper items you choose.  Then string them up after the shower and use the different strings or chains for a photo booth style backdrop at your wedding or for the goodbyes at a shower.

Sweet Favor Idea: Chocolate Desserts for your Wedding

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Are you a foodie looking for the right item to give away to your wedding guests? Are you and your hubby-to-be chocolate lovers?  Then this favor idea will be right up your alley.

Instead of giving away an item that you guests might throw away, why not send them home with a little token of love – a chocolate dessert.

Ok, so what exactly will you need to achieve this sweet little gift? And is it something you can do yourself? Of course.  Whether its brownies you cook at home or cupcakes you order in small individual boxes from your favorite bakery, there is no wrong way to go!

If you are going to do this d-i-y style, you will need small favor boxes, ribbon {or a sticker}, labels for a signature greeting.  Stay tuned we will be sharing a great diy tip in the coming weeks!

Top 15 Ways to Save on Your Wedding Day

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

by: Candice Lapin

Looking for a few ways to cut some corners this season on your wedding? Well, look no further, we have some perfect recession friendly tips to help you design the wedding of your dreams no matter what your budget.

1.  Get a Fake Cake {Then Serve Guests from a Sheet Cake}

You can still hire the baker of your choosing. Work with your favorite bakery to create a sheet cake of your favorite flavors. Have the same bakery then create a “fake” cake that is decorated to your liking! That way, you can splurge on the ingredients but keep your cake within your budget.

2.  Create Your Own Favors

Remember, favors can seem overwhelming but this is the part where you and your hubby to be can get creative on the gift giving. Consider baking some little deserts for your guests.  If you are throwing a Palm Springs desert weekend wedding, consider giving away a small cactus in a little container. For those with a beach wedding maybe a mason jar with a real shell. Now that we are turning to fall, perhaps a pashmina with a small note for your female guests to keep warm.

3.  Have a Small Backyard Wedding

Backyard and homespun weddings are back in fashion. Recessionistas that means you can still have your cake and eat it too. Small intimate weddings can keep the guest count down and you budget within reach.

4.  Serve Your Meal Family Style

Hoorah for family style. Now guests can finally get to pick and choose what they want to eat. Plus, no need to make a meal with three elements – steak, vegetable and potatoes. You can now get creative with a meal that offers something for everyone. Think sprigs of asparagus, cut steak, even goat cheese filled ravioli! Or for a different twist, paella, gambas al ajillo, and chorizo.

5.  Create Your Own Arrangements/Bouquets

Bring you girlfriends together for a bouquet making party (click here). Remember you can go as simple as a gardenia floating in water or even some succulents in an arid scape. Or for a simple look pull seasonal blooms like tulips {in a singular monochromatic color}into a tight bouquet, then drop the bouquet into water.

6.  Create Your Own Boutineers from vintage fabric flowers

You don’t have to be a sewing whiz, you just have to wind your way through etsy for this assignments. Consider intricate vintage pins. They make for a great keepsake and they are always in season.

7.  Have your Wedding on a Friday

You may or may not have heard but simply opting to have your wedding on a Friday can really lower the cost of your wedding expenses. Everyone’s fees go down including the venue and the photographer.

8.  Have a Sunday Brunch Wedding

Daytime fetes are a new favorite for weddings. Mimosas anyone? The same rules as Friday weddings apply as well.

9.  Create Your Own Invitations

Who says you have to spend thousands of dollars on your invitations. No us! For the adventurous do it yourself-ers, think about creating your own invitations. All you need to do is find the right font for your theme and get ready, get set, go! For added flourish, talk to a printer about letterpress.

10.  Buy Inexpensive Invitation Suites on Etsy

For those of us, less creative, put yourself in the very capable hands of a graphic designer on etsy.com! With so many artists to choose from, it can be difficult to decide.

11.  Only serve local foods in Season

Keep the seasonality of your food in mind when you select your menu. You can keep food costs lower by making sure your menu matches the season. Foods like strawberries and even lobster have a peak season.

12.  Use Mason Jars instead of Vases

Instead of traditional vases, consider using durable large mason jars. They have an incredible vintage feel that can really make your wedding feel intimate.

13.  Borrow Your Wedding Dress

Ok, recessionistas, this tip is for you. Borrow your wedding dress. That could mean (1) borrowing from a friend in the same size, (2) going vintage and rummaging through family dresses, or (3) renting a dress.

14.  Use Large Oversized Flowers {they look more lush}

You may think this reads counterintuitive, but in fact, you can really make a impact on your wallet by picking flowers that have larger heads. They look more dense and more lush in an arrangement, so you don’t actually have to buy as many!

15.  Pick up vintage table cloths on eBay

For an added flair, instead of renting table cloths pick up vintage table clothes from family, friends or even eBay!

Wedding City Guide: Our Favorite Vendors in Houston

Friday, October 9th, 2009

With so much focus on such a big day, so many vendors to hire, so many venues to think about, planning a wedding can be ….well…exhausting! So what is a Houston bride to do with brilliant ideas but no vendors booked? Not to fear!  Here is our list of the best in the business….

MS Weddings, beautifully created by Mary Schnurr, offers a complete wedding planning service which can be found by visiting their beautiful site. With over 28 years in the hospitality industry, most of which was served as a wedding consultant, she brings complete attention to detail with both clients and vendors. Aside from consultation and organization services, MS Weddings provides a select choice in full service vendors. With the experience of MS Weddings, the vendors come highly recommended from photography to rentals. For photography service there are three specialty vendors that should be contacted.

Osborne Photography at www.osbornephoto.com

Eric Hoffland Studios at www.hofflandstudios.com

Gloria Stamper Photography at www.stamperphotography.com

Once your photography services are established, flower arrangements are in order. Floral arrangements for your special day can be provided by the following:

Events in Bloom at www.eventsinbloom.com

Wedding Flowers by Lisa at www.weddingflowersbylisa.com

Plants-N-Petals at www.plantsnpetals.com

And of course any special day will need a variety of rentals in which MS Weddings vendor listings include:

Yet another brilliant option specializing in vendors in Houston, TX, is A Soiree Soiree. This source can also be found on the internet, and with a first visit you will be impressed with the professionalism this site displays. In addition to complete wedding planning, this company carries it all out for you. From floral/décor to photography, catering, and coordination, this vendor is a fantastic, smart choice when exploring reputable services.
There are many, many extraordinary vendors within the Houston area, and choosing a vendor with experience is essential to seeing the wedding of your dreams come true.
When you find a Houston vendor who understands your vision, your personality, and your budget, you know you have found the best of the best.

The Palm Door

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Overlooking tree-lined Waller Creek, the newly remodeled Palm Door is a fully customizable wedding venue set in a spectacular downtown setting.

From the nearly 3,000 sq. foot interior to the beautiful decks that run the entire length of the building, there’s plenty of room for wedding parties large and small. And creative novias will love the generous and oh so user friendly décor policy, which allows for nails in the wall. (Can’t you just see the art and fabric already?)

A private bridal suite with attached bathroom takes the stress out of getting ready for your grand entrance, and the classy and spacious reception hall can easily be tailored to fit any wedding vibe. And while Palm Door has no problem with outside catering, we’re crazy about their in house team, The Pink Avocado. Panko crusted brie, beef Wellington, grilled fruit skewers… need we say more?

All of this, plus an attentive and friendly staff? It’s a bridal dream come true.
