Hispanic Cultural Traditions: The Arras

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Looking for some cool ways to incorporate a few Hispanic touches to your big day? We’ve got you covered!

During the church ceremony in many Latin countries, including Mexico, Spain, Panama, and Cuba, it’s traditional for the groom to present the bride with a set of 13 coins (in honor of Christ and the 12 apostles). These coins, known as Arras, are blessed by the priest, and are said to represent the groom’s dedication to support the bride.

For a modern take on the Arras idea, why not swap an equal number of “unity” coins as a tribute to your love and dedication to each other?

Love love LOVE these dresses. I'm a big fan of the bohemian look for any sort of wedding, but I think it's especially appropriate for an outdoor beach wedding (I blog about destination weddings to Mexico.) I posted a few of these pictures and link to this post on my own blog, please check it out at www.WedInMexico.org. I'm also on Twitter @WedInMexico. Thanks!
